I previously used a school band type music stand that was sturdy, but did not break down at all. I also had a flimsy stand that was fine for sheet music or a thin book of music, but not a binder of 100 songs. This new stand works great for that. Portability to and from practice was a big reason for the purchase. Even the plate where the music is placed breaks down into two pieces to fit into a carrying bag. Assembly was a trial and error experience because I put all the pieces together, and then couldn't get the stand low enough to see while seated. It turns out I needed to remove a section to accomplish that. Only reason it is not a 5 star is that I am not "this is the greatest thing I have ever seen." It adequately meets all my needs.
