The player is well worth the money.

Personally, the player is worth around $40. I say this because I bought the player with some expectations. These are strong Bluetooth and higher interface adaptability. I bought the Aiworth Bluetooth mp3 player before and it was a good product, but it had a button interface, not a touchscreen. This was a problem for me as I have hundreds of mp3 files and scrolling through them one by one is very hard and eventually I lost that player. So I bought this one with the scrolling in mind. The overall for this product is that its Bluetooth is relatively easy to use, and it has a good amount of internal storage, (I personally have around 4 gigs of music, so it was not quite enough) So I installed a micro SD card. The various apps are kind of useless for an mp3 player. Like the recorder and calculator apps really don't need to be there. but the video and gallery apps are a plus because they split up the files. The video quality is incredible, I was surprised, to say the least, shocked would be better, at the amazing quality. The clock and alarm function are okay, not really necessary, that is what a phone is for. But the settings and Bluetooth apps make for a great platform to work with the various functions. The battery life is good, I have not reached a limit yet, I just charge it like my phone whenever I can. There is one glitch that I have found, that is when I let it go to sleep, and wake it up to pause the streaming music, sometimes it will freeze the music app and will not respond, the other apps will work fine, but the music app just stops working. So I just restart it and then it works fine. So other than that, this player is well worth the money.
Lasts about 6 months of rugged use

Great while it worked, pretty tough screen. It still worked after being half cracked..but one day it just wouldn't charge..
It needs really good phones to work well..
Video feature is great, speaker is Meh..

I tried a DIFFERENT MP3 player that 1) didn't allow sorting by album artist vs song/contributing artist (so, let's say the album was BB King but a song on the album was BB and Katie Webster, then it separated them as two different listings) and 2) didn't have a search function or a "jump to" alphabet browser. That one held up to 80GB and with that much music scrolling on a small screen that only showed 3 or 4 items at a time was just not functional.
This player addresses all of those issues AND can hold a micro SD up to 512 GB, with a slightly larger (but still compact- about the size of my palm) screen. Overall: very easy to manage, lightweight, and it easily connected to my Bluetooth devices.
I've had a few hiccups: the first one I ordered wouldn't show up as an external drive on my computer, but it was quickly replaced and the new one does- a couple of times I had to shut it down and restart if it went to sleep on its own in the middle of loading too much music at once. Minor issue.
The main limitation that I would think could be remedied is that while you can select a folder from storage to add to a playlist, it only works if the music files are directly in that folder, but not if the music files are in a subfolder.
Example- I organized my files by: genre-artist-album(s), so: Blues-BB King-Album 1, Album 2. If I want to add ALL of my blues music to one playlist, I can't just click the Blues folder and have all of the songs in the artists' and albums' subfolders added in. I can go to BB King and select both Album 1 and Album 2 and add all of the songs in those two folders at once, then go back to the next artist, and so on.
For a device that can hold up to 512 GB, this is a limitation on the otherwise strong music management system that should be fixed because even the standard organization when ripped uses album artist as the primary and album titles as the subfolders.
I'm very happy with it, overall, I just REALLY wish the building of large playlists were easier. I've just loaded 50+GB of music onto it for a big vacation and I'm thrilled it also has the 3.5mm jack to plug into my car speakers since I don't have bluetooth in there.

Great customer service, a few software issues remain for now

=== Review Update Jun 30 2020 = = = =
I am happy to report that the excellent customer service from this vendor resolved some of the issues I had with the first sample I received. I was sent a replacement unit that did not have any of the touch screen issues noted in my earlier review. It also worked OK in regard to connecting and reconnecting with most Bluetooth devices I tested (details provided below). The player doesn't automatically reconnect, but it will reconnect using a previous "pair" by simply selecting the connection in the BT menu.
The replacement player still has a few software glitches that are reportedly being corrected with a pending firmware update. I will update my review after testing the new firmware.
I tested several BT receiver devices and had success with all of them except for a TaoTronics TT-BR05 that is described as having BT version 4.2 The player will connect and transmit music but has very brief audio dropouts every few minutes. I did not have any other BT 4.2 devices to test, so I can't determine if the problem was unique to the connection between the Timmkoo player the TaoTronics TT-BR05 receiver. However, that same receiver worked fine with several other players that I tested.
I was unable to pair the Timmkoo player with a Pioneer DEH-6400BT car stereo (installed on a boat). However, the supplier explained that the Timmkoo was not designed to pair with car stereos.
So far I have had success using the Timmkoo player with these devices:
TaoTronics TT-BA07 receiver (BT 5.0)
Amazon Echo Tap (BT unknown)
Wicked Raider Earbuds (BT 4.1)
Bose QC35ii Earphones (BT 4.0)
I can report that I am satisfied with the Timmkoo player and with the customer service I received. I can recommend the device as a low cost MP3 player that will likely pair with any late-model BT receiver. I will update this review when the new firmware is provided.
=== Original Review from May 2020 = = =
The small size and seemingly solid construction are positive aspects. But the unreliable Bluetooth performance and flaky software render this device just short of unusable.
I loaded the internal memory and a 32Gb SD card with many folders of MP3 music in hopes of using this unit as a music streamer to replace a failed (and ancient) iPhone. This Timmkoo player has a simple user interface that promised ease of use as an mp3 streamer. But the interface is sluggish in response to finger taps and often lags behind a few steps. So multiple taps (as if the first tap didn't work) can trigger multiple responses that take you where you don't want to go. So I find myself often hitting the home button and then going more slowly than I would like to work my way through the alphabetic listing of artists and albums. Because the interface is so slow I divided my artists into several top level folders separate by alpha letters; A-E, F-J, etc. This scheme eliminates a lot of finger swipes that are otherwise required to get from A to Z in a long list of artist folders.
Once an album folder is accessed the player will stream the songs in alpha order. That's what I want, so that part works ok. I number my tracks starting with 01 so the albums play songs in the correct order. But...and here's a bummer...the software seems to stick on the most recent folder. When I move to a different folder (album) and start the first song it doesn't play; instead, the first song of the prior folder plays, followed by all the songs in the prior folder. Very annoying. I haven't found a consistent easy way to resolve this. So for now I return to the home screen and start over. It's time consuming, but it seems to work every time.
The Bluetooth connections are also flaky. The unit will connect ok but has brief (I.e. 20 ms) interruptions every five minutes or so. And, when it powers down, it won't reconnect with a prior device unless the "forget this device" routine is performed. So I have to re-pair every time.
So I am making do with the device for now. Would I buy another one? No.
