This is the third PC I have built with a Gigabyte MoBo. I built the first in 2009, the 2nd in 2013, and the third last week. I have heard some horror stories about Gigabyte MoBos blowing out or DOA, but the first two boards I had functioned well throughout the time I owned them. I like Gigabyte because you get a lot of features for the money, and they seem to offer a solid build quality with good materials.
Here's my experience building this one up:
-The box was not sealed, and the anti-static bag was closed with a piece of scotch tape. It made me wonder whether this was an open-box return.
-The board feels solid with a clean finish, but maybe a little lighter than previous boards I've owned. Less heatsink material.
-Built it up with an i5 CPU without internal GPU. I used an EVGA GPU.
-The board has a socket for the ATX 2x2 4-pin CPU power. I didn't have that cable, so I just didn't plug anything in there. In online research, it seems that it offers extra stability especially for overclocking, but it isn't necessary for basic functioning.
-I plugged in the monitor and turned on the power. I didn't get a beep code. There are 4 indicator lights: CPU, RAM, VGA, and BIOS. It would hang on VGA, and not go to BIOS. I tried this a bunch of times with the same result.
-I called Amazon who offered to call Gigabyte, replace the board, or refund my money.
-I called Gigabyte, and I was queued on hold for about 10 min, then they offered me a callback. They did call back, but it was 6 hours later, and I couldn't answer.
-I emailed Gigabyte, but I have not yet heard back. They say expect to wait 3-5 days.
-I tried turning the PC on again, but this time, I turned on the Monitor FIRST. Bingo! Got into Bios.
-Loaded everything and set everything up.
-Still no beep codes.
-Tried the buzzer in both orientations. Nothing.
-Bought a new buzzer. Tried in both orientations. Nothing.
-Flashed the BIOS. BINGO! Beep codes.
Overall, it's a decent board, especially for the money. I'm glad it has indicator lights, since the beep codes didn't work. I wish there were better instructions in the manual or online. Amazon support is great. Gigabyte tech support should be better. If you buy this board, remember to turn the monitor on BEFORE you turn on the PC, or else it won't recognize the GPU. Also, flash the BIOS so you can get beep codes.
