Part 1 and Part 2
To be honest I am not complete yet. I did a rough assembly in my warm home. I wanted to make sure I have all parts needed and to see if anything could be wrong with it. So my score so far is perfect. Yes perfect. I plan on digging just a small trench 2 inches deep near my garage door the size of the base. Next I will fill with sand, and then screw the top on, I well update my review with part 2. Wish me luck. I can't see what could go wrong at this point. I will ask for help when adding the sand. I think I need a funnel holder, lol lol.

Part 2
So the day came to put play sand in the Dig Free Mail Box. I read a lot of reviews and I took the chance with Play Sand. It was a pain. I live in the Northern Midwest. It was 42 degrees Sun was out. Let me tell you if there is any humidity in the air the sand will not flow like you would think. It took a while but I got it done. I think I would try Pea Gravel the next time its about the same price. Or concrete.

If you live in a very dry place sand should work but the air must be very dry too. If it feels damp at all don't use sand. Just because it was not out in the rain does not mean the sand is dry. Again I might try pea gravel but then maybe anything that is damp will stick together when in the funnel. I used a Bigger funnel with the smaller one that comes with it. I cut the end off and tapped both funnels together.
I am still happy with the product so far. Important tip: There are 4 screws on the underneath bottom pay close attention to the directions. That's it and good luck.
It is easy to assemble

This mailbox was easy to assemble. It looks really nice. It seems very sturdy once the sand has been put in the base and the post. It just takes quite a while to put the sand in.
Stunning addition to my front yard

Decided to get rid of the wooden, run-of-the-mill mailbox post that was on the side of the road, and used a small bit of yard space to create a new home for this beauty. I didn't want it to look so obvious, so I dug maybe 6-8 inches and buried some of it"¦ I wanted it to look like it belonged, not just plop it atop the lawn. It is 100x more attractive than the old one I had and I absolutely LOVE that it opens from both sides. I have a little walkway created using stepping stones that lead to the opening facing my home"¦.when I tell you I have never stepped foot on my sidewalk since LOL

Side note: one of the notches on the doors came broken. I reached out to the seller and they did not hesitate to send a replacement piece, rather than me having to return the entire thing. Excellent customer service!!
Fantastic Alternative to Digging

We wanted to move our mailbox to the other side of our driveway for convenience. But the thought of digging a hole for the post and installing that was groan-inducing. I decided to research alternatives and came across this. We read about every review and decided to give it a try.

The process of putting it together was easy. You don't need any special skills or know-how, just the ability to follow directions. Everything fit together nice and snug, all holes lined up and nothing was miss-aligned. Filling it with sand is definitely easier with two people, I wouldn't even attempt it solo unless you have no other choice. The funnel it comes work works just fine, just use a scoop or cup or something to pour your sand into it. As other reviewers stress, use sand that is 100% dry. I can't imagine using even slightly damp sand, how annoying it would be. We actually used finely crushed glass that we got from a local winery (they crush it because it can't be recycled, and we got it for free). It does make a mess to fill it, so be sure to do it outside where you don't mind sand and dust all over. There's really no cleaner way to do it, it will make a bit of a mess when filling.

We carried the base out to the street first, then the post and assembled it there. Again, two people makes that easier. We put ours on the ground by first removing the grass, leveling it out, putting some crushed glass down (or sand works), then simple pavers. This brought it up in height enough to be compliant. Be very careful about that, and make sure you check into the height regulations and how high yours will be once you have it where you want it, and measure from the street up to the mailbox itself.

I really like the rear opening door, that is fantastic since we live on a busy road. Size of the mailbox itself is fine for average house-hold needs. The magnetic doors open and close great. I'm not a huge fan of the red flag being on the front because I can't see it from my house to know if the mail has been taken or not, but the flag itself functions fine. If you have it pulled out, you can be confident it won't close on its own by wind or something. Even though this is plastic, I do not think it looks tacky or cheap. It looks great, plus no maintenance or worry about a wooden post rotting out.

The real test will be in the winter when the state plows fly by our house and sling the heavy, gravel-laden snow. I will update my review at that time once we see how the mailbox performs. But as it is now, I feel it'll be good. If we get wind strong enough to move it or knock it down, then we have more to worry about than just the mailbox!
make sure dry sand - wet sand would be a major endeavor

works very well as a replacement - around Christmas a road turd ran over our potted plants and took down our mailbox and a telephone pole before he took off and was never caught - at least he left some of his crappy truck for us to dispose of - front area a mess to this day - was easy to use this model mailbox and took me about 2 hours to assemble as I had the sand already available. looks ok and is sturdy - I would recommend. Couldn't find anyone to install mailboxes around Pittsburgh so this was ideal. I have CAD and CKD and I moved it to the road with a dolly so if I can do it so can you. GOOD PRODUCT
