I had/have several external hard drives that connected to my computer via a USB port however when my PCs quit recognizing one of the hard drives with nearly 5 TB of data on it I panicked. I watched a video on line to determine if the drive had a SATA port hidden inside and once I was fairly certain that it did I carefully tore off the plastic case and connected this device to the drive I found inside. It took three days and the use of several ice packs to keep the drive cool but I did manage to transfer all my data to a new drive thanks to this nifty device. If you need to connect a hard drive that has a SATA port to your PC I recommend this device. (Just don't be a dope like I was and forget to use the included power adapter if you have a greater than 2TB drive. The power adapter definitely increases transfer speed.)
