I was on the fence about buying this. "I can just use my net to remove floating debris, do I want to spend the money on this?" It simply works. No more little bugs, leaves, or flowers on the surface of my Florida pool. It doesn't capture large leave, and small ones can pass through, so I recommend using a vortex leaf catcher between the skimmer and your filter. It's truly amazing what a difference this makes. I installed it at the first interhose connector instead of closer to my Zodiac G3 cleaner. That way, it can't get caught under the hose and restrict cleaner movement. Well worth the money for the labor savings.

This nifty skimmer does an amazing job removing the debris off the top of our pool. We are surrounded by neighbors with trees and agricultural fields so the top of the pool is constantly littered with leaves and dirt. The collection cup is easy to remove and clean out. It may seem a bit pricey but once you run it in your pool it will be valuable addition.

This is a great device to provide strong, effective skimming of an inground swimming pool. I live in Southern Florida and in the Spring, after a strong rain, the surface of our backyard pool will be covered with thousands of small flying insects (gnats?). Almost all of them float on the surface, so they don't go through the floor drain. I can spend a good hour with the skim net, slowly walking back and forth scooping up these bugs, and even then there will be lots I missed. The pool skimmers built into the sides of the pool don't generate enough water movement to cause the floating bugs to enter the skimmer and get sucked into the filter.
I reviewed available add-on skimmers and selected the SkimmerMotion as being the best candidate. It's a simple design and doesn't require modification to my pool or pump system. And the reviews led me to believe this might work for me. In addition, this product is labeled as Made in the USA, and that carries a lot of weight in my decision-making process.
The device comes packed well, in a sturdy box that stood up to the USPS system. The floating head unit is well-made of thick durable plastic. The quality of the design and manufacturing is evident; it's a substantial unit that should hold up to years of use. A corrugated white plastic tube connects to the underside of the head unit. The tube has a T-joint at the other end which connects to your pool cleaning robot. I have a Pentair Kreepy Krawly Great White which has a socket for connecting the cleaning hose to the inlet inside the pool's skimmer housing; that socket has a suction adjustment that allows me to dial up or down the suction going to the Great White.
I have connected the SkimmerMotion two different ways: 1) Following the SkimmerMotion instructions, I connected the T-joint to the Great White's hose and let the Great White pull the SkimmerMotion around the pool. That worked well, since I only had to adjust the socket inside the skimmer housing to get the proper distribution of suction between the Great White and the SkimmerMotion. Easily attached and easily adjusted. 2) To use the SkimmerMotion without the Great White, I stuck the T-joint directly into the socket inside the skimmer housing and plugged the open end of the T-joint with a golf ball. The SkimmerMotion was in the pool by itself and the suction adjustment is still available via the socket.
In both configurations the SkimmerMotion worked exactly as advertised. The bugs get pulled in from several inches away, and go down the tube and on to the pool filter.
I will be recommending this to my friends and neighbors. It does the job!
The only reason for four stars rather than five is the price. Like most other swimming pool accessories, this costs more than it should.

Like other reviewers of this product, I needed something to skim the hundreds of teeny, tiny flying bugs that commit suicide in my pool every night. Every day, SkimmerMotion goes to work and sucks them right into the vacuum system. It's not perfect and I wish the suction were stronger, but then the vacuum wouldn't have the bulk of the suction and therefore wouldn't travel around the pool as well as it does.

So SkimmerMotion is a bit of a compromise - but it's a worthwhile compromise.

I've tried other systems, including one that worked quite well, but it necessarily cut down on the water flow in the pool, which then allowed green algae to start forming around the pool where the circulation was weak. You need the chlorinated water to circulate completely around the pool to control the growth of algae.

So I was disappointed to stop using that system. SkimmerMotion doesn't skim quite as well, but there is absolutely no hit to the water circulating now, so it's the compromise I'll happily life with until something better comes along or until SkimmerMotion introduces SkimmerMotion 2.0.

Works good, if you have a ball valve to each return line on your pool I just throttle the one ball valve closed to make the suction better.
