Quality tool, excellent for the purpose

I bought this because I had a whole room full of nails sticking out of studs from removing drywall. This tool made short work of getting the nails out, and did not break off the nails, either. Recommended.
Works when nothing else will

I'm renovating a deck, and removing over 1000 nails. Every once in a while, I run into a nail that the normal nail puller can't get out"¦because of the nail had break off, or simply requires more leverage than what the normal 12" nail port can provide. This tool hasn't failed yet. You have to get a little bit of the nail head or shaft exposed before you can use it, so it will not replace the normal nail puller. But once you've got something to grab onto, it just doesn't fail.

This is a tool for the job. Heavy duty and makes it feel like a breeze. I'd buy another but this is iron and has a great extension bar. Tuff tool recommended
A specialized tool for special circumstances.

Do not buy this to pull nails from pallets. The spiral nails hold too tight and this tool cuts or breaks off the heads of the nails. Otherwise this tool is a good concept - the harder you pull, the tighter it grips the nail. This should work fine for removing common nails, even large ones. The handle is longer than a claw hammer, providing more leverage. The surfaces that grip the nail are narrow, so you have to take care in placing it on the nail, and it can slip off the nail if it's not centered in the grips. As a result, a claw hammer would be much faster if you need to pull a lot of nails. The surfaces that grip the nails are pointed so they can be driven into the wood to get nails that are not protruding above the wood. This is accomplished with a sleeve on the handle that can slide up and down, providing impact. The tool is made of cast iron or cast steel and the tolerances are loose, especially with the sliding sleeve. This does not inspire a lot of confidence, but once the nail is engaged and you are pulling, it feels solid.
Overall, I would try a claw hammer first. If that fails, then this tool may succeed.
