Nice healthy color, but

This was my first time using a Madison Reed coloring system. The instructions are nice and clear. I love that it gives you all the supplies needed, including two pairs of quality gloves!
My hair is naturally curly, and I'm usually hesitant to color it and disturb my curl pattern. This color system was gentle, and I didn't notice any adverse consequences.
Now for the results: I only noticed a subtle difference at first (starting off at dark brown), it did fade/lighten after few washes. It seemed as though others only just started to nice I colored my hair, and it's been over 2 weeks later. Even with it fading, it's still darker than what I would've liked (also why I got a color dramatically lighter than what I wanted).
I mainly gave it the 4 stars because it worked well, and it did come out with nice coverage.

I have been coloring my hair for 30 years. I used to use Clairol Nice and Easy but my husband constantly complained about the smell. It was pretty bad. I also didn't like the color for the first week after I used it. It would take a couple of washings for it to settle into my hair. I saw an ad for Madison Reed and decided to try it. No smell, no harsh ingredients and gluten free! The color is beautiful the first day. I feel like it is better quality for my hair and worth spending a little bit more. Still cheaper than going to a salon!
Cons: It is more money than Nice and Easy. I also don't like that I have to leave it on for 45 minutes. I have some grey and it really struggles to cover the greys. I used to use a shade lighter, but Madison Reed recommended I go a shade darker to cover the greys better. It worked and I do like the color.

This is the third time I've used this product. The best news is that it is available through Amazon, directly from the originating company so you know the contents of the box or color ingredients have not been tampered with. My order always arrives before the deadline date. The color is amazing, my hair feels so healthy after using the shampoo/conditioner, and it covers all the grays as promised. My hair grows fast, so the grays start to reappear after the 4th week. The application process is easy to use; I prefer to use a bowl and a brush, but you can use the bottle provided in the box. There is NO ammonia scent! Absolutely fabulous!

I really like all the things that came with the kit to help with the coloring process. I have used a lot of box dyes over and have been dying at home since I was a teenager. My hair after this dye was incredibly soft and silky! I have black hair and this color covers the black to a deep rich merlot red it's definitely noticable in the sun and in well lit areas, but subtle in lower light. If you are expecting a brighter color over dark hair this might not be it but I'm definitely obsessed and will probably use this as my go to fall color!

I have been dying my hair at home since I was 14 (I'm 36) so I've pretty much tried it all. I have been late to the party on Madison Reed because I just didn't think it could possibly be all that different than any other home dye. I'm happy to say I was wrong. I'm thrilled with the results. My hair is incredibly soft and healthy, even after I lightened it first. The formula is the texture of a thick body lotion when you apply it, and it spreads very nicely and clings to every hair - there is basically no smell. My literal only complaint is I really hated the smell of the shampoo and conditioner that came with it, but that's a small price to pay for the quality of the rest of the experience.
