This set is well worth the price. the feel of the pieces in hand is nice and substantial. I got the largest set and am glad I did. A gift for my Grandson and he really loves it! The only small thing was one of the balls on the Queens crown was off in the box when we got it...I just glued it back on....easy fix, but still something to mention as the price is substantial enough to want everything right the first time. All in all a wonderful product and we are enjoying using it very much. Extra queens would be a nice touch as well.

The wooden pieces are nicely crafted. They don't stay in place in the case as well as they could. There is also a little bit of an odor to the set, probably due to the finish used on the pieces. The case is well crafted, except the one of the hinges doesn't stay in place. This will be a great set for someone learning to play...good value for the money.

It is more of a maroon/pink vs a red color, but I wanted that and like the pinkish color better. Just wanted to make people aware in case you wanted it to be a true red. The quality of the chess pieces and board are very good. The only thing that wasn't the best quality is where it latches on the side to close the board....the little nails are loose and the latch is loose. We need to try to hammer it down so it will be tight, but other than that it is very good craftsmanship. Happy with our purchase!

IMPORTANT NOTE:
The queen piece, the one that has the circle of beads on top, fits inside the case upside down from what you would intuitively expect. Putting it in wrong and closing the board can cause the padding on the bottom of the queen piece to partially peel off.

This happened to me but I fixed it with super glue. I have have also seen in other reviews the beads tend to have a tendency to break off if the queen is dropped on hard surface. So be careful with handling the Queen piece.

PROS:
The board is the most aesthetically pleasing classic style regulation chess board I've seen. Especially in this price range. Has great potential simply as a room decorations. Playing chess on this board is very enjoyable everything about playing on this board is seemless. The board / case and pieces are all very well made, intricate, real wood(no particle board), fairly durable tho would not recommend being rough with it. The board is very grand and big, I have largest 21in (55cm) variant.

CONS:
The board is very grand and big, requires alot of table space. Can be a pain to make room to setup the board. Can be cumbersome to transport, would not fit in most backpacks. Not ideal for use as portable board.

Best use to avoid these drawbacks would be to leave the board setup as a decoration in a dedicated area for open use.

Final con is the price, tho for boards of this quality it is a remarkably good deal, it is still alot of money to spend on a chess-board and set.

I looked and looked at different chess board sets I picked this one and I'm so glad I did it's beautifully made all wood and stained nice quality anybody would love this set I call it playing Chess with A Touch of Class I love it
