I have used H&R Block's tax software for about five years, and after reading so many negative reviews, I almost went another route this year. Many reviews said the program had changed for the worse, that it was difficult to download and install, and that returns were being rejected. I had NONE of those issues. The download link was supplied by Amazon, and it downloaded and installed as smooth as ever. The program itself looked and acted like it has for years. I had my return done and e-filed in under 30 minutes, and I got the email that it was accepted by the IRS only four minutes later. NOTE: It says that it requires Windows 10 or higher. Well, I did it all in Windows 7, and it worked perfectly.

HR Block announced that their 2022 tax software was redesigned. Since I had successfully used their rax software for many years, I decided to give it a try. I prepared and e-filed two small returns. From my review of the returns, it appears the tax was accurately computed. The flow of the software was similar to past years. However, I ran into difficulties in accessing the data input fields as well as several problems with determining how to move to the nest screen. As I used the program, I developed work arounds. Experience tells me to expect problems with newly designed software.

When the download is complete, product installation will begin.
During the installation process, you will be prompted to enter an activation code.

Though this year's product is not as good as the last few years, this software is still good enough that I'll give HR Block at least one more try before I'd consider switching brands. Download from this site is pretty simple if you follow the link to your online content, setup is easy, and the user flow through the software is relatively drama free, especially if you're able to use the option to auto-fill from previous years' versions of the software. The form has good recommendations for the average user, as well as links to more detailed information and a pre-file checklist to ensure you're not sending it off with an oops. The one thing that docked a star for me is the option to have W2 information downloaded directly from your employer by inputting their tax EIN. That option just does not work right. Every W2 that I filled in manually was fine, no issues, but every W2 that I used that automatic download option was rife with items that needed correcting, and they were headscratchers to boot, just elementary errors that shouldn't have happened. I would have been better off manually entering all of them, and that is what I would recommend to anyone using this software. Otherwise, it worked perfectly well, and the only reason I mention the issue at all is that it is mentioned as a special feature, but it's a feature that doesn't work as it should.

We buy this software every year. It works well and is easy to follow the step by step questions. Having used it before, it is super easy to prefill half the stuff by importing the previous year's tax return. Only complaint is that it often needs updates to certain sections before filing can be completed. This is likely more an issue with the IRS not releasing the new rules for how they want to take your money early enough each year, and also likely not an issue if you just have a simple return.
