My 2nd Ooma
Albert✓ Verified PurchaseAugust 9, 2023
My first Ooma just died. I had it for over 10 years though so I'm pretty ok with that. I'm a little disappointed because I thought this was the Telo Air - which is totally wireless. And it's not. It has to be plugged in to the router/modem. So, you're pretty limited on where this can be. Why aren't they ALL wireless at this point?

Other than that though. I've been using Ooma for years and really like it. I think it's a little expensive at $100+ a year and then you also have to pay taxes - which in my case are like $13 a month.

911 isn't great. Someone was breaking into my home years ago. I called 911. They didn't get there for 4 hours because Ooma had sent them somewhere else. Part of that is a bad 911 operator who didn't listen when I gave my address. He just looked at what the phone system was telling him - and ooma was telling them I was in another city. So, I had a smashed window, cuts on my arm and the guy got away. Thanks ooma. I noticed that when I bought this new ooma there was a big note as soon as you open the box specifically saying, and I'm paraphrasing "Listen, 911 is awful on our service. You need to do this this and this to make sure it's even kind of accurate and even then please be specific to the operator and tell them you have an internet phone and they may be seeing false information."

Other than those complaints - and they may be big ones for some of you - I do like ooma. I really like the call blocking and black list service. I like these new hand sets too. Since they're made for the ooma telo devices they work much better than any other average phone (which will also work)

My old set had an answering machine. So, I had an answering machine and ooma's voicemail. I never knew where my messages were going. Some would go to machine, others to voice mail. And that kind of stunk. Now that I've replaced my very old beat up phones, I just have the voice mail. The phones have nice color screens. Are easy to use. Can be used as intercoms. And each phone can be programmed to ring with a different phone number. So, if you call me/the house these 2 phones will ring - my daughter has her own line so if you call her JUST her phone will ring. It's very convenient.

Ooma isn't perfect and it has its problems but the good outweighs the bad. In my opinion.
Great Telephone Service Replacement

Everything just works with OOMA. The sound quality of phone calls is excellent. The audio quality of the Handsets could stand improving. I prefer the sound on my AT&T handsets but the OOMA handsets are easy to pair with the base unit & have a few features that a regular handset doesn't incorporate. Overall highly recommended.
Crazy Pricing, Great Phone

I have been using an Ooma Telo with the HD2 handset for years, but the HD2 handset was failing to charge the battery (I had replaced the rechargeable batteries and they still would not charge when the phone was on the cradle.) So, I planned to just order a new HD3 handset. However, the new HD3 handset was $50 alone and this set offered three handsets plus a new Ooma Telo base for $100, so I now have a lot of spares. My existing base is pretty old, so I thought having a replacement ready might be a good idea. I considered just going ahead and changing the base, but I found out you actually have to call Ooma to change the base out (unlike everything else with them which you do solely online.) The new HD3 handset is an improvement on the old HD2, it is slimmer and easier to hold, the cradle is smaller, but they did change from AA rechargeable batteries to AAA rechargeable batteries, yet it seems the battery life is about the same. Using Ooma for my business phone has saved me $1000's over the past seven years and the initial setup of the hardware is still the best setup experience I have had.
Nice to have this for home

As part of my separation, I had to have a "landline" to have my kids visit. We agreed that VOIP was as good as landline, allowing me this service. Plugs into internet gateway and boots up first time quickly. Instructions were clear. The phones work great and have clear sound. I have one in the master bedroom where the OOMA base is, one in the great room (about 20' from base) and one in lower level (down a flight and about 20' from base), and all work fine.

Issue I had was when my internet rebooted and I could not get the OOMA base unit to reboot. I chatted with their tech support who then told me to call the over the phone tech support. Took a long time and was very unclear, so took longer than needed. Overall a very good value upfront with low monthly costs going forward so happy with this.
Bye-bye big landline phone bill

We were promised a package rate by our big-name phone provider for landline, internet, and cell phone. We decided to buy a new router/modem to improve our internet service at the house and felt that since the price was the same for one from a retail store and one from the provider's store we'd go with the one from the provider, imagining it is optimized for use on their service. We spoke with them beforehand and when we picked it up at the store and were assured there were not changes that would occur on our package because we were buying the router/modem outright, not leasing or making payments. Of course that did not turn out to be the case and we found ourselves having to argue with them every month to get the $25 increase refunded. There are no acceptable alternatives for service where we live so it was aggravating and frustrating.

We have another residence where we don't have landline service but needed to send some faxes (how archaic, yes I know) so we bought an Ooma based on the recommendation of folks we know who do call center work from home and praise Ooma. It's like a one-time investment and very small yearly fee thereafter. What we're paying there for Ooma is less than we were paying a month for the landline service in our other home. At first my spouse (who is much more into the tech things than I am) was skeptical. But once we got the set he saw how quick and simple it was to set up and the user experience was no different than the landline user experience at our other home. He became a fan!

Such a fan, in fact, that we invested in this package, with multiple handsets for our residence with the existing landline. To heck with you, big service provider. Yes, we do still pay them for internet (again, no alternative where that home is located) but we now pay a much smaller monthly fee (for an upgraded service level) than we did when we were fighting for the credit every month.

I like the way the buttons are arranged on the handsets, they're placed intuitively for bringing up the menu, redialing a number from the call history, etc. The battery life is good and the sound volume and quality is perfect. The handsets are light, the cords for the bases are a good length. The equipment is stylish and blends in with our decor.

Would I buy this again? As I said above, we already have purchased a second set for a second residence. Highly recommend Ooma for the monthly service cost savings and for the quality of the devices.
