A great all around CAT5/6 LAN and POE video tester.

I use this more for video camera setup & troubleshooting than computer LANs because of its Power Over Ethernet (POE) measuring capability.
I've been in the computer business for well over 20 years and have a myriad of CAT5 type testers, with the majority home security cameras utilizing CAT5/6 cables and Power Over Ethernet (POE) this test set is a must to verify proper wiring, voltage, power pins and polarity. If you're in the IT industry this test set is very intuitive where you really do not need the user manual, if you're a novice a quick once over the user manual is sufficient to start using this with confidence.
I tested this on several CAT5 connections to include straight & crossover at varying lengths and one with a broken pin, this test set correctly identified each of the connections. I tested it on a home security camera system utilizing CAT5 wiring supplying 48VDC power via POE, the test set quickly identified the power pins and a continuous measurement of the DC voltage which, is great for finding intermittent power issues. Using the Port Flash port, just plug in an active line and have confidence it will identify Speed, Transmit Mode and Protocol. I tested a few systems from 100M to 1000M with different duplex modes and protocols and it was 100% correct every time.
GOOD:
- XMTR & RCVR Long battery life, each unit has a 3.7V 1400mAh battery lasts for hours.
- Battery charging utilizes the typical USB-C port (cable supplied although it's only 12" in length).
- XMTR & RCVR Semi rubberized case (both units) for drop protection, with grooves for non-slip.
- XMTR Display images are large and easily read in sunlight
- RCVR The Non Contact Voltage (NCV) is rated for 70-1000VAC however; my tests also revealed that it consistently identified low voltage (5VDC) circuits too.
- RCVR Has a loud (volume adjustable) tone but, if you're in an office there's a 3.5mm earphone jack (with supplied earphones)
THINGS TO BE AWARE OF:
- The cable length function was hit or miss with accuracy for my tests. I tested several cables laid out in the open at 10 and 60 foot lengths with good straight connections, of my many readings taken 10% on the first round were in error, 50% in the second round and 20% third round. In my opinion the Cable Length measurement option is far from a deal breaker though.
- There are three RJ-45 ports on the Transmitter so, be mindful you're using the correct port and that it correlates to the test you're performing. You won't necessarily damage the transmitter rather, if you forget to use the right port you may think you have a bad cable or other issues. This is overall minor, just something to be aware of because other testers I have utilize one port for all tests so no need to swap around.
I would absolutely recommend this CAT-5/6 Tester.

Love this set. I have purchased three other sets before this one and I had issues with every one of them. In my work, I use these almost every day. So far this set has not let me down. I would recommend this set.

This network/cable tester has WAY more features than my trusty old one I've had for 20 years or so. I was a little apprehensive that it would be buggy since it indicates the firmware version is 0.2, which is a LONG way from 1.0, and I couldn't find any newer firmware on the Noyafa website.
But once I got to using it, I found it very full featured, especially for the price, with all kinds of cable tests for continuity and crimp quality
(for the clear RJ-45 end connectors) as well as a touch-free power probe that was really cool and my old set DEFINITELY didn't have. The PoE features to measure and verify power over ethernet are very handy in these network camera times. It's just an all-around very nice product.
The only place where it really falls down is the manual. It's very Chinglish-y with nonsensical phrases and sentence construction that make some of the instructions inscrutable without heavy decoding ability. I wish companies targeting the English-speaking market would spend a few hundred dollars on a native language technical writer to do the manual text for them. It would make all the difference in the world for product experience.
