I'd never had a cup of French press coffee before I bought this coffee maker. I read the instructions, followed them, and anxiously pressed down, then poured the coffee into my cup. The only word I could think of to describe the taste was "smooth". The best coffee I've ever tasted; usually, I have only one cup in the morning, but with this French press, I have to have at least two, it's so good. And it's really a beautiful coffeemaker.
Just to let you know, it is also very heavy for this 79-year-old to carry when it is filled with water. No problem, though, when I use two hands.
