The media could not be loaded. I really like this Insoma sprinkler timer because it's always great when there is a simple solution to a tricky problem.

My parents have a garden in their back yard that is not covered by their sprinkler system. I had a choice to either figure out a way to extend the sprinkler system under a section of concrete to reach the garden, then set up a special timer on the sprinkler controller, or I can just run a hose to it and have a simple timer with a separate program. Obviously, the hose is the easier way to go. I'm even able to set up a drip irrigation system in the garden and connect the inlet to the hose.

I had a really difficult time teaching my parents how to program their sprinkler irrigation system because of the dials and unintuitive controls, but this sprinkler timer is really simple and the controls make a lot of sense.

The controls are made in a way where you answer the questions that you would ask of yourself when it comes to watering your plants: When do you want it to start? How long should it keep the water on? How often do you want it to turn on? Once you answer those questions, just put it into auto mode and let it do its thing. Simple. Gone are the complicated days of the week and two-week programs that those bigger controllers do. Just set how many hours between each watering and you're done.

The build quality of this unit is pretty rugged. The plastic is not cheap and the metal coupling helps to keep good contact with the metal threads on your hose. In the box, you get a 1/4" quick release coupler and some silicone tape, which I didn't need to use, but it's good that it's there. Batteries are not included so bring two AA batteries.

Overall, this is a simple device that just works and solves my problem of how to get water where it needs to go and when it needs to be there. Simple, right?

The sprinkler works, programming ok but the screen has started to lose the contrast and is difficult to read. Did not monitor the sprinkler often, it was working not until well after return date did I need to make some adjustments was the screen image noticed.

UPDATE: presented a review that while the timer functioned, the screen was difficult to see. Customer service contacted me within hours of the post and offered to send a replacement. communicated several times and promptly sent another water timer. Amazed that such a quick response and effort was made to correct their product failure and shows the commitment to customer service this company has. Many thanks to their customer service

The only thing I don't like is it take batteries

I bought two of these, one for my front yard and one for my backyard. It has been very useful because I can't spend a lot of time in my garden and this has helped me a lot. Now I can set the timer and go to work without worrying and without having to stay the whole time to water everything. Totally recommended.

With this timer there is no way to schedule multiple waterings during the day but not at night as it allows for only one "program" or combination of the start time, duration and repetition. I needed 2 waterings a day for germinating grass seeds, and I had to set the repeat rate to every 6 hours, thus ending with 4 waterings in a 24 hour period, which was more than I really needed, but this was the only way to get 2 waterings during the hot part of the day with this timer.
Other than this one caveat, the device works great. Also it does not obstruct water flow all that much which is a rare find among the low-priced watering timers.
