This is Reel Yak's Raptor modular kayak - meaning that it comes in two easily transportable parts (it fits easily in the back of my RAV4 unlike my one-piece kayak, which is a roof rack transport) and it even has an available additional center section (at significant extra cost from RY) that would convert it to a two-person dual-propelled kayak. It is well made and comes equipped with most things you want, like aluminum T-rails (with a couple of extra T-nuts in each), rod holders and a comfortable seat. There is a cheap paddle included - I already have a better one, so it really doesn't matter. It rides nicely and is pretty stable on the lake. I'm 5'11''/200# and it fits me pretty well. The seat is very close to the floor, especially in the rear position, so don't expect to store anything under it. This model doesn't have available height extenders for the seat. Plenty of space (and bungees) for a 13"x13" crate on the back and/or a thin pack behind the seat back. Smaller storage at the bow, and a nylon bag in a well just in front of the seat. The paddles work well for forward propulsion - if you want reverse, you need a prop not paddles (or use the kayak paddle). It's easy to propel without a lot of effort if you don't want speed. Quite fast in return for a leg work-out if you pedal hard. Turns pretty well with the rudder. I really like it so far. RY has a lot of extras, but they're not cheap. (Some are available elsewhere at significantly lower cost). I put a couple of 1.5" balls and a couple of attachment rings onto the T-rails without problems.

Now for the bad bit: the delivery. Amazon used Ceva Logistics for this (Reel Yaks use FedEx or RL). Supposed to arrive a week ago. Ceva emailed a few days prior to expected arrival to set up a delivery appointment. The provided link does not allow online scheduling. Nor does it allow online tracking. The phone number provided via a popup from the link sat me on hold for 30 minutes, then dropped the call. Repeat that for another round. Tried again the next day (Amazon's anticipated delivery day!), on hold again for almost 30 minutes then finally an agent. The agent had no idea of its current tracking location - it was supposed to be in Ontario (California) and on the way to Sacramento but the last record was at DFW Texas! Couldn't schedule via that number either - they provided me with the local Ceva office number in Sacramento. Another round of 30-minute phone hold x2 before giving up till the next day. Finally scheduled the following morning - for the middle of the following week. I finally got it a week after Amazon's delivery date. On reflection, it would have been much faster (and the same price) to have ordered direct from Reel Yaks.

The top of the box was open on arrival, but everything looked intact - no paperwork or instructions in there, but they are available on Reel Yaks' website. Everything was in two large plastic bags - one for each section of the kayak. The rod-holder base and the seat were already attached to the kayak and the paddle unit was already assembled - but the rudder was separate. Made me wonder whether this was a return, since the online RY instructions describe initial seat attachment and needing to assemble the paddle unit. Chunks of the powder coat were already coming off the front rail of the seat, which also has a dent (pictures). Cosmetic only, but not good on a new purchase before its maiden voyage.

Note: The star rating is purely for the item: I'd give delivery a single star.

I began kayaking 7 years ago and my dream kayak was a pedal kayak, but at the time there were only a couples companies offering them and they were geared primarily for fishing. Tons of extra gear which added unnecessary weight and expense, since I'm not a fisherman. This 9.5 ft modular kayak is perfect! It's super fast to put together the two pieces and drop the flipper/pedals into place. I'm on the water in about 5 min. The 2 piece concept makes it easy for me to lift in and out of my van and I can nest the two components (see picture) so we can still take passengers in the van. Also, I used to have to unload my old kayak after each use because it was too long to allow the back hatch to be down all the way. I had to mess with bungees on and off and it was just a hassle. Not to mention the annoying road noise and smell of exhaust that would permeate the van while driving to my destination. Now I simply store my kayak in the van so it's always with me! Performance wise it's fast when you are using the pedals and when you are in shallow water all you need to do to remove the flippers is toggle two levers and lift out the mechanism, then grab your paddle! You get both an arm and leg work out. (and this company includes the paddle!"¦some do not) I can't recommend this kayak enough. I noticed that kayak is unavailable thru Amazon at times, just go to the "Reel Yaks" website. They have the same kayak for the same price. I assembled the rudder myself, and I'm a 64 year old woman"¦it was a little confusing, but probably wouldnt have been for my husband, I just didn't feel like bothering him. The only thing I wish it had was a reverse option while pedaling. I'll deal with it by keeping my paddle near by. I don't often need to reverse anyway.
WOW!

Great kayak. Having a modular (two part) kayak allows me to fit this kayak in my midsized SUV. No roof rack. I can also easily store this kayak. The two parts of the kayak fit together quickly and are water tight. Quite the game changer which will allow a lot more people to buy a kayak. The pedal system works very well and I much prefer pedals over paddles. The rudder is effective and this kayak tracks well and moves quickly. Lots of extras are included. This kayak is a great bargain at the price. The seat is comfortable. The storage bin is easy to use. The quality is impressive.
I had tried an inflatable kayak but it leaked the first time I used it. This is a study, well built kayak that is easy to use. Hobie kayaks which I have owned cost much more. Hobie should buy this company. Reel Yaks should get ready for a big demand for this innovative, high quality, pedal kayak at a great price.

Just received and it looks so fun. It even arrived a day sooner than expected. Can't wait to try it out.
Encountered some difficulty while assembling the rudder, but as it turns out we has received a bum component. I contacted Reel Yak with a pic of our issue and they responded immediately (literally within in hour) offering to send me the new component. Huge props for great customer service!
2 weeks in update: Have had it out a couple times. Transporting it is so easy, fits in the back of my SUV and is so much easier (and more secure) than heaving a full size kayak up into roof top racks. Snapping the 2 halves together is a breeze. This wasn't apparent to me beforehand, but seems obvious now - the 2 halves are themselves fully closed molded pieces, they will float on their own and water doesn't come seeping up into the assembled kayak as I had illogically wondered about beforehand.
The paddle fins are super smooth and efficient to operate, they get you moving even against some wind and current.
I was worried about a 9.5foot kayak feeling "small" but that wasnt the case at all. It feels very stable and is well accessorized to fit everything needed; I only added a drink holder and an anchor rope tie-off to the rail systems.
You simply cannot find a better foot powered kayak anywhere near this price point. This is a really great product and I'm very happy with it!

The media could not be loaded. Keep in mind i am 5'7" & 155lbs and in my opinion this kayak would not be suitable for anyone 6ft and over.

So first i want to say this kayak is perfect for the beginner trying to get their feet wet in the hobby of kayak fishing. I have tested this kayaks limits over time going both inshore and in rivers, ponds and lakes.

PROS: The Pedal drive and rudder system really move you through the water and is perfect for ponds and lakes and even in shore if you have the fitness for it. I have since upgraded this kayak by installing the side motor mount on the reelyak website and i have been running a trolling motor inshore around bays with great success. Boats would zip by me and this kayak handled the wakes pretty flawlessly. The convenience of storing this anywhere and fitting it into my SUV with ease is a game changer no roof rack needed. Quality is really good surprisingly for the price you cant go wrong. Unless you are running a giant 100ah battery like me in the back this kayak has decent storage in the front and back compartments along with a good dry hatch by the seat.

CONS: Limited storage for me since ive upgraded this kayak throughout my time having it but to the average person straight out the box it has good storage. The pedal drive does NOT go reverse keep that in mind! The stability when you are sitting down is great but i wouldn't try to stand and fish on this thing even in a pond. This kayak only comes with two accessory rails so you are kind of limited with what you wanna add. Buying add ons through the reel yaks website takes about a week or so which can be a little annoying but products come well packaged. There is also only two rod holders. If you add the trolling motor side mount you will not be able to fit a milk crate in the back but if you run just the pedal drive you will be fine.
