Exactly what I was looking for
Felicia ✓ Verified Purchase•September 18, 2023
I started making homemade bread as buying bread at the store was a waste for my two person household. I needed something to cut the bread into even slices instead of the free handed chunks I was cutting them into. This product was exactly what I needed. Easy to use easy to clean and easy to store. I absolutely love it!
Overall, a decent bread slicer

I got into bread making by accident (the bread maker was a gift) and after trying my hand free slicing, decided I needed a bread slicer. I was not convinced of the bamboo ones, thinking bamboo splinters would be in my future. So, I opted for this brand.
There was a learning curve involved. If you lay the loaf with the bread machine dough hook side down, the final cuts are tougher due to the thicker crust on the bottom (next to the maker's heating element). It cuts easier if laid on the side. But that may or may not produce some cosmetic issues based on the thickness of the top crust. Also, learning how much and how little to push the bread against the bamboo end piece will dictate uniformity.
Overall, I and my wife are pleased with uniformity and the job it does.
Negatives?
"¢ The side panels only index one way, and even using the supplied bamboo end piece it is rickety. I more or less reduced that problem by using a thick rubber band to hold the non-index sides in tension which reduces the movement when slicing.
"¢ The knife supplied is not solid enough to produce even slices. Use your own knife.
"¢ We only use the slimmest slice guides and wish that there were more of them.
Positives?
"¢ It works well once figured out. My sliced loaves look presentable and even.
"¢ It is easy to clean.
"¢ It folds up nicely and out of the way.
"¢ It should last a long time.
On the fence?
"¢ You will scratch up the plastic base plate. It is inevitable. You won't get any bamboo splinters, and based on the density of plastic, I doubt you will get any plastic is your system.
Hints for the supplier?
"¢ Have the factory cut notches in both sides of the side plates and provide indexing on the bottom plate to help make it less rickety. Or provide a rubber band to help minimize movement and keep it a one-person job.
"¢ Maybe sell side plates that are all one slice guide? The thin slice guide is like regular toast to me while the medium is closer to Texas toast. Not sure what the heck I would use the big slice guide for.
Overall, I give it four stars. A half star off for being rickety and a half off for not having enough thin slice guides.

With this it is easier for me to cut fairly even slices quickly

At first I was really disappointed! It took me a while but after 2 or 3 loaves I can now cut fairly even slices quickly. For that reason I guess I would recommend it with the warning to expect some disappointments.
At first I cut some white slivers off the guides so was careful not to push as hard against the guide. Another reviewer mentioned the cutting surface getting all cut up so I cut a piece off an old cutting pad to fit over the white surface an it works fine.
I bought the three thickness slicer but wish I had purchased the other. The slices I get are 1/2", 3/4" and 1". The widest ones I will never use. The middle size made good french toast but the smallest is what I use normally and I can only cut three at a time.
I was disappointed that when I picked it up by the tray handles the first time one of the handles simply broke off! The mitered corners have gaps and should be glued or a little nail would be good.
The slices can be thicker at the bottom; I suppose I need to figure out a device to push more evenly and it would also keep fingers away from the blade at the end of the loaf as another reviewed has done.
The knife that came with mine didn't cut well at all (maybe the knives vary since some people have said they're great) so I use my own knives which aren't as long as would be nice but they do cut the bread.

Bought this for cutting meat.
Cleaning easy, also Saran wrap bamboo end plate to keep clean.
Whished could cut even thinner.

Helps cut even slices quick .. Caution base plate is soft. You can cut into it if not careful.
