I purchased this product after a friend made me a latte with the older version of the product. I liked this version because the cup is stainless steel and doesn't have any non-stick coating in it like the older version. The device has pleasant chimes telling you when it has started and is finished. The noise is minimal. The amount of foam varies depending on the type of milk that you use. Do heed the internal markings advising of fill heights. Cows milks makes the best foam, with unsweetened almond milk a solid second. Sweetened almond milk makes less foam. But either way it is great to have warm and frothy milk for my morning coffee. The spinning gadget removes for easy cleaning. Love that the mechanics is separate from the frothing pitcher unlike the older version as well.

Pay close attention to the fill lines for foam. It will over flow east of you go over. You can only make about an 8oz coffee if doing thick foam.
I froth it up. Then add more milk and use the lower speed to finish getting it hot.

A milk frother that actually gets hot instead of lukewarm! Best purchase I've made this year! Much easier to clean since it's detachable. Makes amazing foam and the extra hot settings are even too hot for me so I do the middle guy and also use it for cold foam/ no heat in the mornings for coffee! Just get it!

So first of all, I was already a fan of Instant Pot products before I tried this so I admit that I'm a little biased. I love my Instant Pot and I'm practically an evangelist for these things. So I was very excited to try another of their products.

I'm really happy to say that this is another Instant Pot product that lives up to the brand reputation. It's easy to use, easy to clean, and has a ton of options so you can make all kinds of frothy beverages. I like that the carafe is metal and much easier to clean than my older milk frother, which has a non-stick coating that I'm always afraid of scratching. Plus, the metal will conduct thermal energy so if you choose a heat setting, it should theoretically heat more quickly and efficiently. I did choose the highest heat setting to begin with and I should mention that, though made of metal, the handle wasn't hot to the touch at all so I didn't have to worry about burning myself.

A couple of notes on getting started with this:

It's a little confusing the first time using this and you'll definitely need to consult the manual. I looked all over this product for any kind of buttons or anything to change the settings, only to find that they only show up once you plug it in. Then they appear and are lit up and very easy to read.

The buttons themselves use symbols to choose your levels of froth and heat. I needed the manual to make sure that I was reading them properly but once you understand them, they make sense and you'll remember them. I initially didn't see the max fill line and just eyeballed it but I was incorrect and it not only took a long time but it didn't get as frothy as I thought it should be and it eventually started overflowing a little. When I looked again, I saw the fill line that I'd initially missed and, after consulting the manual again, I realized I'd definitely overfilled it, which explained why it wasn't doing what I expected it to do. When I reduced the amount of milk in the carafe, it worked perfectly.

When finished, I can either clean it by hand or I can wash it in the top rack of the dishwasher, which I appreciate because handwashing is for chumps and I don't do it if I can avoid it.

Extra pro tip: I like to get a lil fancy with my coffee, especially when I have a long day ahead of me, so I put a little sugar-free flavored syrup (not too much!) into the carafe with the half and half and it makes a beautiful flavored foam that makes my coffee extra special. Starbie's got nothing on my fancy drink game. I think I want to try adding a little bit of rosewater next time and see how that does. That sounds incredible and I think I want to add that to a nice hot chai.

Anyway, I love this thing and I'm looking forward to having lots of fun with it.

I initially bought a top rated battery operated frother which I returned as it was junk. Instant, however, is a legitimate appliance in a compact form factor. The stainless can was a huge selling point for me (opposed to non-stick). It's a little tight for my large hand to find in the mixer unit. Here is what I learned so far:

froth 0, heat: 0: unacceptable at mixing chocolate powder (Ghirardelli baking chocolate power is hard to mix, near impossible with a spoon, so previous best option was a matcha whisk).

froth 0, heat 2: matcha pending test.

froth 1, heat 0 or 2: perfect job at mixing chocolate powder, however, you have to ignore the max level for forth 1 and instead fill a bit under froth 0 max to get a usable drink volume. It will spill if you do it all the way to forth 0 max. It takes a LONG time to heat up... I should time it but like 5 minutes? It's great but I wish I could make it just a little hotter. Once you get the volume dialed in you don't have to watch it so it's still a very convenient appliance.

forth 2, heat 2: beautiful froth with half/half but it deflates quickly (nature of half/half I think), and of course you have some leftover liquid which didn't bother me. It's quite luxurious to have froth on hot chocolate.

Here is what Instant should consider improving in future versions:

1. Use variable froth option (not just 3) so I dial it in for chocolate powder without the very significant loss of drink volume. Find a way to deal with overflow so it doesn't result in liquid running onto the hot plate or worse into the machine.

2. Use variable temperature control so I get it a hotter.

3. Tell me the actual temperature (F/C).

4. Use induction element for heating, or more powder so it can prepare my hot drink about the same time it would take to heat it in a microwave.

Finally consider making a version with twice the volume (2 cups).
