What a great mower with a couple buts!
J. Rothenberger✓ Verified Purchase•August 15, 2023
Right from the start I'll say this is a great mower. You can either power the wheels or push, as heavy as it seemed getting it out of the box, it doesn't feel feel heavy when you're mowing. I mow somewhere around 3/4 acre and I expect it will be no issue doing the entire yard as I did over half and I still had a full battery to go.
A warning unless you're a young stud with a great back, don't try lifting it out of the box when you get it. It is heavy. My back has had issues since Thursday when I stumbled on a root and tweaked my lower back, Even without that, my 75 year old body wouldn't have liked me lifting it. I gave it one brief try and then broke up the side of the box so I could just roll it out. That is the most advisable method.
Then I noticed there was no manual in the box. I thought that was rather strange but I figured there must be one online so I started searching and nothing, even on the Greenworks site, at least for the MO49L515 model. I'm hoping that's because it's a new model and they just haven't gotten it up on their website yet. So I was back to working blind. It wasn't until I had the mower ready to run that I found the "manual". It is a 3"x5" pamphlet that again isn't suitable for my old cataract growing eyes. One of the reasons I wasn't totally happy.
So still with no instructions I needed to install the only part not on the mower when I started, the top of the handle with the controls in it. I was having a heck of a time getting the side in that the wires run down. I'm guessing they told you to take off a rubber gasket of some sort on the end of that arm but until I looked at the difference in the two arms did I realize it was on there, probably to protect the wires during packaging and sending. Once on, there were two bolts and lock nuts to hold the handle together and I was ready to go.
The second main reason for only four stars is the charging unit. It doesn't seem to shut off once the batteries are charged. I could be wrong about that and plan to let it charging over the night and will update this if it actually shuts off like other big chargers I have. The unit was flashing when I first installed the batteries and they were a steady green when I took them out but perhaps they still had a bit more charging to get to full capacity. The charger really should shut down when full charge is completed.
Other than those two issues, this is really a nice, simple mower. The mowing experience was great once I realized that, if you're self-propelling the mower and want to pull the mower back toward you, release the self-propel handles and go forward a few inches to release the wheels so you can pull the mower toward you. It takes a little getting used to but no big deal.

The Best Greenworks Has To Offer

This Greenworks 25" 60v self-propelled lawnmower is, in my opinion, their best to date. When someone stole my previous 60v a few weeks ago, I knew I wanted to go back to Greenworks, because even the old one was still going strong despite never changing the blade in the past 5 years (the thief got a good one 😢). This one is slightly larger and touts two blades, though I don't think the duality is necessarily a buying point. It's pretty quiet as electric mowers go. It seems pretty durable - I'm not concerned about it breaking down any time soon.
It came with two 4.0ah batteries that charged within a couple of hours. Obviously that means no gas and no gasoline smell. No maintenance of any kind aside from replacing or sharpening the blades.
Mostly I'm just glad to have the torque needed to get through slightly thicker grass, and while it did get choked up here and there, it seemed to be mostly due to the grass being wet in those areas.
The self propelling feature works very well, but do be aware that it will drain the battery very quickly.

Great mower

It is a good thing that this mower was easy to assemble, because the instructions left a lot to be desired. The print was so small you needed a magnifying glass. I would not call this mower light weight, but it is not heavy either, it weights a little over 70 pounds. It is in that middle ground. This is a self-propelled lawn mower, so you do not need to push it, so in my opinion the weight is not a big deal. Even my daughters did not have an issue with the weight. It comes with 2 40-volt batteries and both need to be in the mower when you run it. One battery mounts on the left side and the other mounts on the right side. The mower first draws power from the left battery and when that runs out it automatically switches to the right batter. The mower come with a fast charger for the batteries. You place both dead batteries on the charger and in around 2 hours the batteries are fully charged. You also have several speeds to run the powered wheels, which is great. If you want to bag your grass, it comes with a bag that you can easily attach to the back of the mower. I love this mower and highly recommend it.
Almost perfect!

Let me start by saying that this lawn mower is great! It cuts grass good and it bags well too. it is lighter than other brands I've owned, so it definitely is a plus. The battery life is pretty good too. Two fully charged 4Ah batteries lasted 1.5 hours on average. I used both Turbo and Self-Propelled features a few times and it still lasted 1.5 hours.
One issue I'm having is that I can't turn off the lawn mower when I release the green levers. The only way to turn it off is to remove the safety key. According to the manual, it should turn off when I release the green levers, but mine doesn't do that. I'm in the process of getting it resolved. It is a safety issue, so I took one star off.
The build quality is superb and it is powerful enough to cut thick grass. With the Turbo mode on, it becomes easier. It is lighter than other brands and easy to push even without the self-propelled mode on. Overall, the quality of the product and the additional features justify the pricing. Almost a 5-star item, but I'll update accordingly if I can get the start/off issue fixed. What a great lawn mower!

Much Better Than I Thought It Would Be!

This mower came in a slightly beat-up box, but ended up having no damage once I got it out. The only assembly required is to attach the top of the handle with the controls and only requires a good sized Phillips screwdriver. The two included 4.0 Ahr batteries had to be charged before using, but only took about an hour to charge fully.
This thing is extremely QUIET!! The controls were good, but I found that when using the self-powered drive, you usually must push the mower forward a tad in order to pull the mower backwards. Otherwise the drive wheel locks up and can dig a rut in your lawn. I will get used to that quirk with time.
This mower is designed to either mulch or bag the clippings. There is no way to just discharge the clippings. This is not an issue for me with my Bahia lawn, but could be a pain with thicker, lusher lawn types. This mower has two synchronized blades which are not interchangable. They spin in opposite directions, I guess. The cut is even and the mower doesn't struggle much in thicker areas. The single height adjustment is great and very easy to do. The mower uses only one battery at a time and when the first one gets to a certain point, it automatically switches to the other one. When that happens, you can tell because there is a slight, but noticable surge in the moter speed for a moment. There is no blade speed adjustment other than a "Turbo" button that gives you an extra 500rpm's to the blade.
I cut my 1/4 acre lot on a battery and a half, but there is no cutting needed (much) in the back yard. This was done with the self-propell set at almost the lowest setting (I am 70). There is a set of LEDs across the front which are always on when the motor is running. I really wish they could be toggled as in most situations, I won't ever be needing them and they waste power as far as I'm concerned.
The grass catcher bag is decently made, but a little small, Thankfully, I will rarely be using it. The fact that the mower folds up and can stand on it's back end with no worries of leaking oil or gas is fantastic for storage. The handle has two height settings which should work for most individuals.
As far as the batteries, after using, they charged back up in about an hour again and the batteries can be left on the charger full time with no danger or damage.
I guess in summary, I'm really glad so far that I have this mower to replace my old 21" simple, non-self-powered push mower!
