Growing sprouts and green onions is easy without any special equipment but the stand and lids in this set makes it more efficient and visually appealing on your counter top. The darkness sleeves enhance the flavor of sprouts and also look much nicer than using a black sock like many people do. The provided jars are unbranded standard wide mouth mason jars.
One extreme word of caution, be VERY careful removing the jars from the darkness sleeves. Do so slowly and carefully and do not pull using the strainer lid. While unboxing this product I pulled the sleeve off while holding the lid and it popped off, sending the jar straight to the kitchen floor and shattering it while inside the sleeve. Fortunately I have tons of wide mouth mason jars so the set wasn't ruined, but one absolutely needs to be careful while pulling off these covers. I can't fault the product for my mistake in this case but please be careful out there with glass!
Otherwise, really great project for little ones to be included in on. Especially the daily rinsing of sprouts to minimize bacterial risk. My son loves helping with that chore and checking on sprout progress each day. He might even actually eat the sprouts once they're ready.

This kit has all you need but the seeds! we grew our first crop and the taste was fabulous! it was easy to do and it really took little thought, just a schedule. We're trying out the onion grower in another jar and we're starting to see new greens come up! If you're a gardener and can't wait until spring... get this!

For a honest review in my own words. I love this set two tablespoon of any seeds makes the second jar and that's only a few days. These are the salad mix by nature jims sprouts. I've even done beans, lentils,extra it makes alot of food if on a budget and very healthy for you. When I bought these I was think if the world did shut down what would make my money last longer . best buy I made.
