How complex do antennas have to be? Works fine.

It's an antenna (not a complex thing) and it worked fine for me. The antenna's amplifier is powered from an integral USB cable. The antenna signal is carried via a separate cable with a coax connector. I'd buy it again for local TV reception.
The accompanying amplifier box has switch for "Low" and "High" gains. With either gain setting, when the TV did a channel scan, it found 18 channels in my area, including a bunch of educational channels from a city ten miles away. Once the channels were identified, it received them fine... again, in either "Low" or "High"-gain modes.
The instruction manual was a welcome relief because it was complete and well written.
The antenna cable was quite long and very useful so I could run it from the TV in the middle of a wall, route it around a corner, and put the antenna in a window.
I strongly suspect some of the negative reviews here over not receiving any channels are the technical complexity of making the TV scan for active channels. There is no getting around a certain complexity with any antenna on an HD television: After going to "Source" on the TV and selecting the "Antenna" input, you MUST THEN navigate the TV settings menus and command the tuner to scan the antenna input for active channels. That step is spelled out clearly in the instruction manual but is a bit unintuitive as many would assume that once you've selected "Antenna" for the input, programming should be there waiting for you. ALL antennas are dependent upon this step; it's just the way TVs work nowadays.
Another negative review here (since deleted) complained of not being able to receive signals from a city 80 miles away. You need a large directional (high-gain) roof-mount antenna for such a distance. You can't use a wall-mounted antenna like this one to receive transmissions from distant cities on the far side of a mountain range.
