Does what it says!

Does what it says but rusts pretty quickly. I bought this last summer to help transport my 16.5' kayak and it does exactly what it needs to. It's secure and the adjustable design lets me use it for other things as well. My only problem with it is it's developed surface rust already. Yes, I leave it outside in the elements, but less than a year is pretty quick in my opinion.
I'll probably throw some spray paint on it to help slow it down, but it's structurally ok still.

Used as a front of truck rack extension (with mods)

I needed a front support for some long poles I was transporting and this fit the bill for my Toyota Tundra with an added front hitch. Using a TracRac rack on back I ended up having to add another foot for this to have enough adjust-ability for my needs. The T shaped top support could use with a better tighter fit and you would be wise to add a couple straps to help keep the load from swaying/level.(wish they added places to do this) The welds at the L joint does not look all that strong but it did not fail on my 6 hour trip that also included a pretty bumpy gravel road. I did order this expecting to make a few modifications and I was fine with that.

Well made and heavy duty for my kayak. The only thing I don't like is the possibility of dragging this on the ground when going over a large dip or uneven surface like some driveway accesses. But not an issue if used as a roof level extension, which I don't. They need an option with a curved extension.
The perfect solution for carrying kayaks in a short-bed truck, and solo loading.

After a lot of research for ways to load kayaks onto my short-bed truck, I met a couple with the Extend-A-Truck loaded with two 14ft. kayaks. "Bazinga!" This was the solution to my problem.
I like to go out on the lake solo when my partner is not available, and I can easily load my kayak by myself.
I bought reflective tape to increase visibility on the road and put it on both the horizontal and vertical parts. It does come with one red flag for the back of the load, but I will purchase more durable flags. I have used this for the past three weeks, and driven over highways and rough, rutted unpaved logging roads. No problems at all! I highly recommend this product. It's very stable and easy to install and take off the truck to store. A locking pin for the hitch will keep it from being stolen while you are on the water.

Before I bought this, I had those big racks that went on the bed walls and were higher than the cab. It's true that the big racks hold two canoes and are extremely sturdy. But they cost over $600, and it takes 20-25 minutes to put them on, so I would leave them on for months at a time. Couldn't drive the truck in the parking garage at work with them, either. You also have to lift the canoes up over your head to get them onto the racks, then you had a rather complicated ten minutes strapping them down. Then I bought a folding bed cover, and discovered that they conflict with each other; can't both be on the truck at the same time.
Extend-A-Truck can carry just one canoe, but also other things. You can put it on in about one minute and another 30 seconds to strap it down. Much easier for one man to load, and the canoe slips in under the Tonneau or folding bed cover. There isn't anything that comes with the Extend-A-Truck that holds the bow of the canoe down in the front of the bed, so you will need to buy a strap and feed it through the bow of the canoe (unless you have a bed cover). One negative with Extend-A-Truck is that sticking a 16 foot canoe in an 8 foot bed makes your truck really long, and it can be tough to maneuver in tight parking places, or even driving off road where you might need a tight turn around a tree or up a steep hill and the Extend-A-Truck can hit the ground.
If I needed to go a very long distance, say, a hundred miles, or if I needed to stop over in a place where someone could steal my canoe, I would use the tall racks because it's so much tighter and more secure. But when I only need to go a short distance, it's awesome. I use my canoe twice as much now because it's so quick and easy to take it places. There's a lake just five miles from home and I wouldn't fish it after work because it was a hassle to get the canoe on the racks. Now I can.
