We bought two of these Westclox Travelmates at the airport in Ireland about ten years ago. We enjoyed them and the batteries lasted several years. We have had occasion to try other brands because we sometimes forget to pack the Westclox. Disappointing.
I had looked for this product in stores for years without ever finding it.
A few weeks ago, I decided to try Amazon. There it was and several dollars cheaper than we paid about ten years ago.
I ordered three and tested one. Yes, it is the same product. Yes, the night light is still inadequate. It folds flat and the U.S. product has a 12hr format for AM/PM. format. (I prefer the European ones with 24 hr. format as it minimizes any am/pm errors.)
Also, the alarm is sufficiently LOUD to wake me when in a deep sleep. That is very important.
I will also mention, I have been using this as my primary home alarm clock for many years. The battery lasts approx. five years. I also set my clock radio two minutes later just in case the Westclox fails. The few times it did fail to go off, it was due to my forgetting to put the alarm slide to the ON position. It's very reliable.
No travel alarm is perfect but this one comes close and that's why I gave it five stars.
October 2013: Have been using this alarm (along with a wired one set two mins later) each morning for several months. I am every bit as pleased with it as previous ones. The fold-flat feature is great for packing in a carry-on bag.

I bought this not so much for bedside in hotels--I use my phone and the hotel's clock-- but to place in the bathroom, which is where I am with wet hands when I need to know the time. I wanted a clock that is very easy to change time and stands well by itself, with a cover so I can throw it in my hanging utility bag with no thought.
Don't bother with travel clocks that find the NIST time--that will end badly, because hotels are the worst places to get the signal, more than half the time you are facing the wrong way and the signal would need to travel through 9 walls and 4 steel beams to get to your little clock. I live in a Boston suburb and I don't get the NIST time at my house, ever, due to hills. Twice a year I place my clocks in the back seat of my car when I go to work to catch the time. My point is, you have no idea how good the signal is where you're staying, even if near a big city, and manually setting a NIST clock is never easy. I've had them revert on their own back to the 'last good reading' after I manually set them. Which is why they now take a ride in my car.
What travelers need is an easy-to-set clock, one that is absolutely obvious whether the alarm is set or not. By that I mean no looking for little dot or no-little-dot, and trying to remember which means it's set, but a visible switch that is either on or off.
Silent and reliable. I don't really need to see it in the dark; I have my phone for that. Having a clock in hotel bathrooms is the best way to meter one's efforts and stay on time. It doesn't hurt to set it for 15 minutes past the time your phone alarm or the wake-up call is supposed to happen. If all went OK, you're in the bathroom to click it off before it rings, and if not . . .
Lightweight, very stable when free-standing, protective cover integral to the design, easy to set. Slam dunk.

I've used this same clock for years and years. It is compact yet the numbers are big, it is easy to set time and alarm and folds up so it can be taken anywhere. In fact, I have two of them and keep on in my suitcase. I've also given them as stocking stuffers and 'they' love it too.
Most reliable travel clock ever.

I have been using this travel clock as my primary alram clock on my night stand for over 20 years. The last one i had lasted over 12 years. This model clock is so very well made. It's easy to operate and travels well. Battery replacement can be tedious, but this clock is worth it. Thanks.
Very useful clock
