Good for beginners!

I'm new to the violin, so I didn't want to invest too much before I knew if I wanted to keep playing. This rosin keeps my violin humming without creating too much dust that I need to clean, and sticks to the bow for a couple of short sessions. I'm happy with it and would recommend it for beginners- maybe someday I'll move up to the stuff with gold dust in it.

I have a couple of dark haired bows that I got this rosin for. it works very well, it seems to me. I am not a pro, i am a rooky so take it for what it's worth. I think it works and looks good.

Treadle sewing machine solution!

It's not the intended purpose of the rosin but it worked fantastically for my purposes.

I sew on an old treadle machine and recently had to replace the belt. No matter how much I adjusted the new belt, it kept slipping so I no matter how fast it was being treadled, the needle movement was sluggish. I made a few passes on the belt with the rosin and it gave it just enough grip to sew with ease. I've not noticed any buildup or residue left on the machine but I also don't apply a lot of rosin, just enough to help make it stick.
