Bought this (50lbs upright model) for my dog's food, because I finally felt too guilty to keep feeding my dog hard stale food. I've been wanting to get something for years, but never actually pulled the trigger until now. I've been using it for almost two months now, and it's really a great product. Keeps the ol' boy's food nice and fresh with a tight seal, and I don't have to worry about bugs getting in (although I never actually had that problem). The included scoop is nice, so I can reclaim my old 1-cup measuring cup, but I do think it might be a bit off. One cup from any of my kitchen measuring cups actually comes up slightly below the top of the Vittles Vault cup. I recon it's closer to 1 and 1/4 cup, but no big deal.

My biggest issue with this product is the claim of fitting 50 pounds of dog food. It really doesn't. I know some people are saying that the 50-pound claim is not necessarily referencing dog food, but maybe something like bird seed. However, the tag clearly says "50LB+ dog food capacity". I can only fit about 40lbs of small puppy kibble (Pro Plan Puppy formula) into this thing, or about 35lbs of larger kibble (Pedigree Adult). Obviously it's going to vary by food brand, but 40 pounds is a far more reasonable expectation.

Our senior dog recently got switched to a prescription dog food and the smallest sized bag it comes in is 8.5 lbs. Our cheap flip cap food storage container made for 4 lbs of food just wasn't gonna cut it... I looked at all of the major pet stores and wal**** and the prices were absolutely ridiculous for a product made of cheap flimsy plastic... no way it would have kept the food fresh. So I took a gamble and decided to order the 30 lb Vittles Vault and was pleasantly surprised when my order arrived today. It seems to be very durable and made of high quality materials. The lid is easy to remove and put back on and it has a secure fit. Overall very happy with my purchase

I bought this to store horse feed in a barn that frequently gets damp. I really like the square footprint - it takes up way less room that round metal trash cans and stores just slightly less, but is more secure. Its done the job very well and the opening is surprisingly large - I have a 5 gallon jug that fits easily in and out. I have only put a 50lb of feed in there so far, but I have no doubts that I would be able to do 2 bags for 100 pounds easily since the feed is going to be much smaller than large dog kibble and take up less space. Fingers crossed that the plastic really is critter proof as far as chewing!

As food containers go for your animals, they all seem to be the same cart time with the flip up lid. Well if your dog is anything like mine he loves to flip the top up to the trash and get in it. I can only imagine he would do the same thing to the food container you can get from walmart. I needed something more secure for the food.

Before buying this product I didn't even consider that my pups food was going stale is it wasn't in a airtight container. The two biggest selling points on this for me was the seal tight lid to keep air and of bacteria out of the food, keeping it fresh. The second is the lid has to be turned like a vault to open and close it. There is no way my pup can even get into it!

They do have hand holes to make it easy to move. This came with a free cup to use which was a nice addition that I was not expecting. I can also say that this does hold 50lbs of dog food!! I normally buy the 57lb bag and it took almost all of it. I did still have some left but I put it in a container and used it first.

I love it so much and was telling my neighbor about it since they have animals and they now want it too! This is prefect for your pets meals!

The Vittles Vault 50 pound size is about right to drop in 25-30 pound food bags, bag and all. As another reviewer mentioned, that keeps the inside of the vault clean and fresh-smelling. The vault keeps food fresh, and has done a good job for the purpose I had in mind. I store food indoors. The problem I wanted to solve was that while left alone in the house, our youngest dog had taken to dragging the food bag onto her bed, tearing it open, and gorging. She tried with the Vittles Vault a couple of times (we found it mysteriously moved into another room), but she realized it was not going to be feasible to bust open and she seems to have stopped trying. Another problem the product has solved for us is, our alpha dog felt responsible for guarding and protecting new, unopened bags of dog food (I guess she didn't like the little one gorging on resources any more than we did). I noticed last night, she felt comfortable abandoning "food guard duty" immediately after I put the new bag into the vault. Now about the construction of the vault: the edge of the lid on ours is sharp enough to cut a dog's nose or muzzle while the owner spins the lid off or on, so be careful to keep the dog(s) back from it while opening or closing the lid. Other reviews have mentioned the gasket stretches and falls off. I have had that happen here, too, a couple of times. I think it might have been due to cross-threading the lid or spinning the lid too fast when opening it. I just repositioned the gasket properly and it hasn't been an ongoing issue. I hope Vittles Vault redesigns the edge of the lid to be smooth and rounded instead of with a sharp edge, and I hope they improve the gasket material to something that has less stretch or more elasticity (returns to original shape without deforming). All in all, a good product that works well for our needs for indoor dog food storage.
