I have been using mag drills professionally in the structural steel industry for 25 years and I have never had issues like I do with this drill
Stephen Verdick•March 15, 2018
This drill has a quick change chuck that does not lock well, It is constantly slipping on the cutter and causing me problems. I sent it back once and the second drill is also junk. I have been using mag drills professionally in the structural steel industry for 25 years and I have never had issues like I do with this drill. It has let me down on 2 different jobs and cost me money and down time.
Work better then my shops more expensive magnetic drill

Have use the Champion magnetic drill for a couple months now. Work better then my shops more expensive magnetic drill.
Perfect for our shop.

This drill is awesome. It fits in tighter spaces then the one we rented from our local till rental. It has good gripping (magnetic) power so you have plenty of down pressure to drill. Check the set screws that holds the shaft to the motor as ours came loose. No big deal but had to make a trip to hardware store to replace one we lost. Other then that this is a little beast of a drill. Buy with confidence.
I purchase this drill and it do all that it ...

I purchase this drill and it do all that it says and more it already paid for itself the only thing is that the pin brake in the twist chuck and now I have to replace it and that was the same thing happen in my first drill something I think they should look at that
Great MidWest Rep!
Jay Man•February 10, 2014
Arrived in intact case, but slide locking knob/bolt ( 5 x 15 mm thread w/ plastic knob ) had bent 45 degrees. 'Had trouble finding replacement until I reached the MidWest rep in Kansas City. Even though he's out of the link in these Amazon sales, he quickly sent me a free replacement bolt, catalogs and a local contact for any questions, accessories or warranty work. So nice to find someone willing to cut the red tape for a customer!
The unit is heavily built, precision tolerances, etc.. Designed mainly for 1/2 " to 1 3/8" annular cutters with excellent internal cutting oil flow, one can add the adapter for a standard drill chuck to use standard drill bits. However, it should be noted that this adapter fills the travel space of shank, even before you put in a standard bit. This means you'd need to build your own little mounting block to increase the chuck/base distance about 5-7 inches above the thing you're drilling in order to use standard drill bits.
Also, this machine is heavy and designed to hold strongly on 1/2 inch plate thickness and over. Thinner plates may not allow strong enough magnetic attachment to secure the unit, although I've seen them used on 3/16 with no problem. You have to use less drilling pressure and beware of breaking loose while drilling under 1/2 inch plate. A safety chain is included to catch the unit if power fails or base grip is too weak. I suppose you could make your own custom 1/2 inch plate to mount on the equipment you're drilling.
I'm making the custom drill press base as well as a custom 1/2 inch plate to allow using this on the truck or trailer for field work where hauling a full sized drill press is not possible.
This unit has one speed, about 700 rpm, and no reverse, but the next one up has reverse and variable speed so you can use their single bit drill and tap in one up and down movement.
The quality of the unit is A-One! 'Just finished many holes in 1/8" diamond plate with no problems, but you can force the unit right/left or loose if you push hard. Moderate down force worked fine in this last project. It works better if you put the thinner metals atop a thicker metal.
