I purchased this and I have not been able to get it to work with my computer. Not sure why.
Seems to work fine.

I recently replace my 2008 iMac with a late 2013 model, but the new computer doesn't have Firewire 400 ports for my old peripherals, just USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt. This hub gives me 5 Firewire 400 ports for those old devices (its 6th port connects it to my iMac via a Firewire 400 cable, a Firewire 800 to 400 adapter, and a Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 adapter, in series).

Part1:
It's OK. Unfortunately, there are not that many different FireWire 400 hubs available on the market today that are cost effective. I'm not that pleased with the product, but it serves its purpose. . .for two days.
Part 2:
After several attempts to re-install this unit I realized that, unfortunately, it did not work afterall. In an attempt to return the product, Amazon dropped the ball. The interesting part of the return process was the follow-up initiated by the seller. After several weeks of NOT HEARING from Amazon, the seller contacted me to find out how things were going. After a good exchange of what was happening, the seller made good on my purchase. That follow-up and concern to right a wrong is really an indication of the sellers true interest and concern to satisfy the customer. Needless to say, you don't get that kind of service from most sellers! Congratulations to the seller for a job well done!

This can be a deadly item to hook up to your computer. It is NOT protected in any way shape or form. I had this burn out my $1,600 Apple iMac's Firewire port and also did damage to other items plugged into it. Smoke came out and 2 very expensive items were rendered inoperable. I would not suggest even a Geek to install this. What a piece of crap. And now I can't even return it for a replacement or refund. Gads I have 2 others. They are going in the garbage can before they do harm to my other expensive computer.
