... make tons of cards and this trimmer does a fantastic job. Clean edges

I make tons of cards and this trimmer does a fantastic job. Clean edges...no more fraying. I was constantly buying blades for my old trimmer...no more. This is the best trimmer I have ever used and I love it!
Not the usual Carl experience --it is kind of awful
naihanchi✓ Verified PurchaseSeptember 21, 2017
While it might be good for multiple sheets of paper, it is awful for photo paper and less than 30 sheets of paper. Perhaps I misunderstood what it was supposed to do but it seems like it is not very useful for light office or home use unless you are cutting reams and reams of paper...in which case it probably is not the best for that either. I even bought new blades and still has the same issue. Last, you have to lock down every piece of paper you cut --which makes it not so user friendly. Usually Carl is a good brand for this but this one was a flop --at least in my experience.
I love my Carl

I love my Carl, my husband loves my Carl. My children's teachers, who send home things to be cut out for their entire class are amazed at my Carl. I just cut out 54 3x4 cards from thick watercolor paper, cutting 3 sheets at a time and every cut was true, sharp and square. I gathered them all up in a stack and they are all identical. If you are looking for a fast, accurate rotary cutter this is the cutter for you!
This is the best cutter I have ever used especially for bulk trimming

This is the best cutter I have ever used especially for bulk trimming! I have been using this exact model at work for bulk invoice cutting. I finally just ordered the exact model for my personal paper crafting use.

I love the locking arm that holds the paper in place. That's my favorite feature, as once you place your paper it will not move once it's locked. If you have a large stack you are cutting at once, you need to make multiple passes, so having it locked in place is a must. Carl does NOT disappoint!

The magnetic arm is so nice especially that it easily moves for diferent sizes. The ONE complaint I have is that the arm sort of pivots from it's spot on the bar, so you need to make sure that it's lined up straight otherwise you may end up with paper that's slightly crooked.

The simple rotary blade mechanism is perfect, I think it works like a dream! my cuts are like butter with it.

Love the extra storage. That's almost a must for me with trimming tools, to have everything all together so I don't have to search for the replacement pieces.

I also appreciate that the trimmer comes with an extra blade, perforating blade, and cutting mat.

This won't be a precision cutter for me, it will be primarily for cutting pieces for cards for assembly. I do have to say I was easily able to cut a 1/8" strip, which is generally the smallest I personally need cuts anyway!

Overall, this is the perfect cutter for my needs! Everyone I know that has one loves their Carl. Great product!
Decent paper trimmer with a few design flaws
C.K. Dexter Haven✓ Verified PurchaseDecember 27, 2015
I bought this trimmer primarily for cutting and scoring handmade greeting cards. It performs about 50% of the duties I was expecting, but is still a step up from my old paper cutter.

PROS:
"¢ Smooth, clean cuts
"¢ Blades are replaceable (and not too expensive at around $5/ blade)
"¢ Handy storage area at bottom of the trimmer
"¢ Includes 2 straight blades, 1 perforating blade, and 2 cutting mats
"¢ Can use each cutting mat 4 times by turning/flipping
"¢ Feels solidly built
"¢ "Locks" paper in place so it doesn't shift during cutting
"¢ Rubberized base keeps the trimmer steady

CONS:
"¢ Not great for card stock (only cuts 4 sheets of 100lb cover stock (270gsm) at a time)
"¢ Magnetic paper guide doesn't fit correctly, is difficult to position, and sometimes shifts while cutting
"¢ Can't use for scoring (the scoring blade--sold separately--does not score card stock correctly)
"¢ Plastic guard makes it difficult to cut smaller paper sizes (under 4")

The magnetic paper guide is neat, but difficult to position correctly. It doesn't fit the rail exactly, so it ends up at a slight angle whenever you try to position it. (See attached photo.) Not good if you want to cut your paper in a straight line! I have to double-check the position every time I move the guide. It would be better if it either fit that rail exactly or extended the full length of the cutting board to slot into both the upper and lower rails. The magnet is also a bit weaker than I expected, and the rail sometimes shifts while I'm cutting, leaving me with uneven paper sizes.

On to scoring. I make large amounts of greeting card blanks at a time, and 15+ minutes of scoring by hand (with a bone folder and scoring board) leaves my hand aching and sore. I was hoping that the rotary trimmer--in combination with the CARL K-30 Replacement Scoring Blade for the DC-210/220/238/2503--would be a great solution for me.

However, it doesn't score wide or deep enough to even leave an impression on the back of the card stock, much less create a smooth fold. (See attached photos for comparison.) Very disappointed. The scoring blade is not wide enough or heavy-duty enough to score heavy card stock. I've tested several different paper weights, and construction paper is the heaviest thing it will score correctly. This is currently the only scoring blade available for this trimmer.

So in summary, cutting is very good in general, acceptable if you use card stock. Scoring is a non-starter. If you're planning on using this paper trimmer for cutting computer paper or small amounts of card stock, it'll probably suit your needs perfectly.
