It's steel and its straight. I Like it.
Starrett Steel Straight Edges are the best and never warp under high heat or Cold. No Bananas Here.

I live in the Sierra Desert where temperatures reach 120 degrees in the summer months and sub zero temps in winter months at night. My Starrerr 385-12 and 385-144 steel straight edges were in my mud hut shop where I produce throwing spears using 174zcm+ Tri-titanium Inconel-Tungsten steel for the local tribes. As I mentioned, temps ran as hi as 120 degrees and my mud hut shop made the temps much higher because the shop acted as a oven. The Starrett straight edges reached temps as hi as 140 degrees in the small mud hut shop. Gladly I was on summer vacation at the time RV'ing in Antarctica with our new motorhome. I had my trusty Starrett with me in case we needed it. When I returned home I found in my shop the Starrett edges were fine. There was a new local tribal dispute between three tribes. I was contracted to make 100 new 174zcm+ steel spears for each tribe. These spears had to be perfectly straight as they were about 90 pounds each and had to fly true when in battle. To make a long story longer, I made enough money to pay off my motorhome. Thanks to my Trusty Starrett Staright Edges. No Bananas Here.

The original straight edge with Bevel that we have was an excellent product! I have no doubt it still is. However, I received a 24" metal ruler, not the 385-24 ordered. Beware if you order this that you may not get what you were hoping for.
Unbelievable failure on this item.

Starrett is supposed to be the gold standard of straightness, but my 12" straightedge started out perfect and then WARPED lengthwise so badly as to be completely unusable.

I live in the California Sierra mountains, and that straightedge was exposed to sub-freezing temperatures in my workshop over several years, but I still cannot believe that those temperatures made that metal warp THAT profoundly. None of my other tools - Lie-Nielsen planes - were affected in the slightest.

I have yet to get an answer from Starrett as to how and why this happened, but I now cannot trust Starrett tools to be all that they are sold to be. That is too bad, but honestly this straightedge is warped like a banana. Unbelievable.
