Small, handy, and works well
ZenDarb✓ Verified Purchase•November 30, 2017
This little scale works perfectly for my needs. I use it to carefully portion out food after surgery. Very easy to use. The tare function works flawlessly:
1. Turn it on and put a plate on - hit tare.
2. Put first food item on until you reach your desired weight - hit tare
3. Put second food item on until you reach your desired weight - it tare - then rinse/repeat
It works really well, looks nice on the counter and doesn't take up much room. Excellent buy for the money!

Completely accurate after years of daily use
Amazon Customer✓ Verified Purchase•August 2, 2017
I've been using this for more than six years now. I use it every day, multiple times. It is incredibly useful. You can use much fewer dishes with an accurate scale, and save time as well as getting more accurate measurements.
When I bought this scale, I also bought a set of little weights -- from 1g all the way up to 500g -- in order to figure out whether the scale is accurate. It was. Well, yesterday I took those weights back out and tested the scale again. I thought there was no way it would still be accurate after six years of daily use. Well, it was -- completely accurate. If I put 1g on the scale, the readout says 1g. If I put 393g on the scale, the readout says 393g. Pretty impressive. That's when I decided I better come back and write a review.

I have one of these that I bought here on Amazon in 2009 for $25. I've occasionally used it for dieting, but nothing close to "everyday use." Most of its life it has sat on the kitchen counter, ignored. Recently I started building a boat and instead of measuring out the epoxy by volume, I do it by weight in a throwaway paper bowl. So it's been in my barn/workshop for the past few months.
The point is, it doesn't seem like it's built rugged, but it takes whatever I give it and doesn't complain. I can't remember when/if I've changed the batteries in it. Surely I must have in 8 years, but it hasn't been often.
The only drawback with this unit is what some have mentioned elsewhere about the display being too close to the weighing platform. This means you can't use a large bowl or a dinner plate and still hope to see the readout. I get around this by using a paper bowl for my epoxy. You can get around it by using a normal sized cereal bowl for your food.

you know how it is when you find a great item, use it for years, and it finally wears out? that little sense of desperation that you will never, ever find one as good again? yeah, that was me about a month ago. i had bought this same model Escali scale years (15?) ago, and it was giving up.
...this scale is lightweight, simple to use, and cleans easily. i have been happy with my old one since the day i bought it, and the aame goes for this replacement. oh, and it even came with batteries!

I have received an item that looks a lot like the one in the picture

I have received an item that looks a lot like the one in the picture, but it is not. It did surprise me how small it was. I actually measured it, it is 5" x 5.5" and it was white, it looked like it was used too, several surface scratches and dirty. Needless to say, I am returning it and I hope I get the actual item next, in which case I will update the review. This can explain why some people find it small, the brand I got does not say Escali on the front either, and if it had not been that it was white, I would not have noticed the other differences. It has a sticker label on the box that matches the name of this product and color I ordered (chrome), so it was obviously mislabeled.
Update:
The second item I received was the actual brand and proper size and color. I will use it next time I bake to make sure it does stay on for as long as it's supposed to.
