Last pie iron you will ever need!

I am an avid camper and lover of poggie pies. That being said I have run through my fair share of pie irons. These are the best designed irons I have used. They are made of thick cast iron which stands up to frequent use and provides for even heating. The design places the clip that secures the two parts at the top with a notch to prevent it from sliding to the base of the iron. No more burnt fingers!!!! They are really well made and I would highly recommend.

I bought these to make pudgy pies over our campfire. I made sure to do a few round of oil and heat over our gas grill at home to season them before we used them at camp. Don't skip that step! They worked great.

Hard to beat the originals. These irons are sweet. I have some aluminum irons made by another company, and there is no comparison to the cast iron Rome's irons. They're the best.

Excited to use these on our camping trip this past weekend, but during it's first use one of them broke. They join together with a hinge to close and one of ours just snapped right off. To the campground trashcan it went.

In general this was a hit / a fun way to cook dinner for camping. We made pizza pies using a jar of spaghetti sauce, pepperoni, low moisture shredded mozzarella, onions, green peppers, and mushrooms. We also had dessert in the form of blueberry pie filling and cinammon/sugar powder on the outside.
It is kind of a pain to season the irons before using. This isn't very difficult (I have seasoned cast iron skillets, etc.), but it is one additional hassle. Just make sure you spend the time doing it since it is a necessary part of using the pie irons properly.
Also, out of the 4 we purchased, one of them broke the first time we used it camping... the hinge part snapped off. I've seen other reviews with the same complaint, so I think this is perhaps a weak point. I was able to send it back and get a replacement, though, so overall I am happy.
