Good Printer
Outdoor Princess✓ Verified Purchase•August 11, 2023
I bought this printer for my father's birthday. He is a photographer and is just getting into the "digital" age. I wanted to get him something he could use at home, maybe not professional quality, but still decent. The printer works really well, we are very happy with the quality of the prints and we've used it for scanning and copying and it does a good job. I like the fact that you can get the ink almost anywhere and it's not very expensive. We looked at several printers and this one seemed like the best compromise for the money and were pleasantly surprised by the actual quality-it was better than expected. It is not as loud as I thought it would be and has only had one paper jam all the times we've used it. I especially liked the 3 memory card slots in the front because you don't have to have your computer on to make prints(but it does help if you want to make really good ones)and it will just print you an index card of all your pictures.
How to use with a wireless Print Server
jsbig✓ Verified Purchase•August 4, 2023
Had this MFP for three weeks and its great. It did not work when connected to my wireless Belkin router/print server, which was not a surprise given that the specs say is it not designed to be used on a network. It does work just fine when connected to a PC networked under Windows.
HP online support provided the following solution for use with a print server:
Thank you for contacting HP Total Care, delivering total care for your HP All in One Products.

Excellent printer for the price

I had an ealier version of this printer that worked well but since it was set above eye level in my armoire office the buttons on top were a big problem. Every time there was a glitch I had to get a stool and flashlight to check it out. My new one is easier to get to since it is on a lower shelf but I still wish they were on the front. The print and photo quality is great and the scan quality is amazing. I have't figured out how to scan slides yet but my husband probably knows. Fine machine for the money.
Perfect replacement

My HP720 inkjet printer died a wicked death (the rubber/string belt that drives the ink mechanism rotted and wound string around different internal pieces). The printer lasted many, many years and worked perfectly until its last weeks.
In looking for a replacement, I decided to add the scanner option (I did not want the fax option, so didn't look at the office all-in-ones). I prefer to stick with HP but don't have an issue going elsewhere as long as quality is there.
This printer is everything I could have asked for. It prints photos very well with included ink (haven't tried the Vivera inks yet, but can only imagine the result will be spectacular); the scanner is easy to use and has scanned photos wonderfully thus far [using on-screen buttons - haven't used those buttons on the machine itself]; the copy function works as it should [both on-screen and button on machine].
I have yet to try borderless photo printing, but that was a plus when buying this machine. I also require paper to load from horizontal position rather than the back-feed vertical position (I've had too many problems with the latter).
The only thing I'm not fond of thus far is that the printer won't automatically turn on when you send a document to print (as my HP720 did). I turn the printer off when I'm not using it as the lights are bright, and this printer is in my bedroom. It's almost too minor an irritant to share.

Wonderful all-in-one for the price

I bought this all-in-one for its ability to interface with Windows Vista. Contrary to advertisements on boxes and websites, HP competitors' products did not work with Windows Vista, or they worked only as printers but not as scanners. I quickly became tired of standing in line at customer service counters returning similar products. So I decided to take a chance on the HP C3180.
The lack of a fax function may limit the C3180's usefulness for some buyers. However, for me that's not a problem as I use an internet fax service. The scanning feature is superb. I have produced scans of my artwork that are clear, crisp, and wonderfully detailed. The printing capability is even more versatile than the manual and Amazon description claim. For instance, I can use Arches watercolor paper to print images, giving them a textured appearance that is more painterly and interesting than an image printed on photo paper. The copying function is produces a clear, undistorted reproduction. Bottom line: this is a great all-in-one for under $100.
