Easy to apply and the grip feels strong (my senior citizen hands needed help from pliers to separate the industrial strength velcro). But be aware that while the strap is 15 inches long, the velcro takes up 6 of those inches, and the grommets (places the lag screw could anchor) are only 3 and 6 inches from the velcro. So if you have the suggested 1 inch or more of slack between the lag screw and the velcro, that means you need to anchor these 2 to 5 inches from the edge you are stabilizing. In my case I was stabilizing a 54 inch wide china cabinet on each side, and with 16-inch center to center studs, I could make it fit but had to position the cabinet farther down the wall than I wanted so it would line up with the studs. If I had had a, say, 58 inch wide cabinet, I would have had to anchor at least one of the straps outside the profile of the cabinet, and I wouldn't have liked that appearance. The other choice would have been to use a shorter length of velcro on the cabinet, which would have made the bond less secure. It would merit five stars if they had made the strap a little longer with another grommet or two to allow more flexibility in positioning. The problem I mention applies to a side mounting. Mounting at the top wouldn't involve that issue.

I bought a really tall thin shelf made of some sort of metal. I couldn't drill into it and the back was made of like cardboard material. Just when I thought I lost hope, I found these with the velcro. I was worried the velcro wasn't strong enough but the bookshelf feels way sturdier than it's ever been. Just follow the instructions and you'll get the results you want.

These are very easy to install without damaging your furniture. I installed a set of 4 on a large wall unit and it feels very sturdy. I'd expect it to hold up well in all but the most severe earthquakes....

No longer live in earthquake area, but found these furniture straps to be very effective at holding a tall 7' bookcase in place. We have a baby and toddlers come and visit so it is a real safety issue to have our bookcases secure. The kit comes with everything you need for the actual mount however I recommend having your own power screwdriver and a phillips in order to complete. The kit gives two ways you can secure which is handy. We ended up just cutting off the excess after I used a our own mounting screws and anchor for the wall. For our project we had a 7' bookcase with about 75lbs worth of books on it and now it is firmly anchored into the wall. Why only 4 stars? Asthetically, the straps can look a little unflattering, however our colors (black bookcase and dark green room) masked this, however you can choose to strap behind the bookcase to hide this aspect completely; also the length of the straps almost makes you take the extra step of cutting, however it is always better to have more than less in these type of projects. Recommended.

We recently bought a 6 foot bookcase. We wanted to secure it in case of an earthqueake and to make sure kids wouldnt tip it over accidently. These straps are great. Two bolts into the wall studs and velcro attachment to the top of the bookcase out of sight.
