These artichoke bottoms are so much better than artichoke hearts! You have to peel away half of the artichoke hearts, wheras you can use every bit of these bottoms. I slice them finely and use them in many dishes. I ordered a case of them and am happy to have them in my pantry. When I run out, I will definitely buy more. I think this is an excellent brand.
When you need to get to the bottom of it

The artichoke bottom is really the only part worth eating. It is firm, meaty and flavorful.
Things sold as "hearts" are usually 80% small fibrous leaves and a tiny bit of "heart"
You can serve these bottoms as a steamed vegetable, or deep fried or marinated in salads.
This brand is good. There are an average of 7 bottoms per can.
Warning. These can be tough and don't seem to be fully cooked during processing so I steam them for 10-12 minutes before serving with butter or marinating for salad and appetizer.
Nice to always have some around.

On Subscribe and Save these are a very good value. They are very tasty and surprisingly not very salty at all. I rinse them off as a rule, but they really don't need it. I like just snacking on them instead of sweets, each can (not each serving--each CAN)is 90 calories, can't beat that. You can really tell the difference between brands when, as I needed to do, I had to use up one can of another brand in my pantry to add to the three cans of Cento I was using in a recipe. I noticed that many of the outer leaves were tougher and more fibrous, inedible. Cento brand artichokes are tender. I like them in salads and on top of homemade pizzas. I noticed that each 'quarter' is sliced at the perfect size to use as is in salads and on pizza. Sometimes the quarters are bulkier and I have to cut them in half to use them. This is ready to go. I also appreciate the pull-tab opening, no can opener to dig out of the drawer. I have placed a second order to keep them handy.
Yum!

A Good Snack

Being a brine solution gives them a salty taste. I cut the artichokes in half, put them in a small bowl and pour Italian dressing over them. Which makes them a tasty snack.
