Holds An Edge Better Than Expected!

Good value. These stay sharp for a good amount of time, even when cutting hardwood. I use a diamond file for sharpening, and get a very sharp edge very quickly this way. No need to use the grinding wheel, which takes off more material during the sharpening process.

Two of the tools snapped off during first couple weeks of use, waiting to see how their customer service is before I update review, other than this issue, the tools work very well for me, made several bowls.
Update: got a replacement set, however, one of the tools has a loose handle right out of the box

This is a great starter set and definitely gets the job done. However, once you try some tools made from better steel you won't go back to these. The bowl gauge snapped unexpectedly about 1" from the cutting edge after around 20 small and medium bowls. I wasn't putting much pressure on it and it snapped well beyond the tool rest so it must have had a micro-fracture in the steel. I reground the break and it is still usable.

I got these to begin turning for the first time. I had done a little turning in shop class in high school so I sort of knew what I was getting into. First of all, I have to say, the packaging is fantastic! They come in a very nice wooden box with latches. The tools themselves are very sturdy and have just the right amount of weight to them. However, they are not very sharp at all. Now, I wasn't expecting these to be super sharp right out of the box, but when testing them on a chunk of 2x4, I would expect them to at least hold out until the piece is round. Knocked the edges off and that was it. My tools were catching on the edge of the piece and stopping it from spinning. All in all, a nice set of tools, but they could have been just a tad sharper. I'll have to buy a bench grinder now I guess.

Frankly I was not expecting much of this low priced set of tools but have been pleasantly surprised at the quality of the tools. Yes, they absolutely need to be sharpen comma, and correct angles ground, before you use them but the steel is very hard and well heat treated and hold an edge for a respectable amount of time.
