Great for keeping RV water hose from freezing.

This is the second Heat I've used to keep my RV water hose flowing. So far this winter we have had four days straight with the temp getting down to 7 and only getting up to 22. The line has kept the water hose from freezing up just fine. I have the heat line taped to the water hose with elec. tape, then wrapped foam pipe wrapping around this. Then duct taped the foam so it would stay sealed and help with a little more insulation. I know this is not what this is designed for, but it does the job just fine.

The pipe needs to be the length of the heater or longer. It can't be installed on both sides of the pipe to use up the extra if the pipe is too short and it can't be wound around the pipe to use up the excess. The directions state these type installations could be a fire hazard. If you have a 2 foot pipe don't purchase a 3 foot heater.
Make sure you get the insulation parts too!

Came just in time for a period in single degrees likely to try our water line, but they didn't mention that you need special tape and insulation to use this properly, so I can't install it for another week or so. Needed materials should be included or noted.

Since we live in an RV in PA I needed something to keep our water supply hose from freezing. I used this thermostatically-controlled heat tape along with swimming noodles (1" inside diameter hole to fit the hose and heat tape in bought from a dollar store - NOTE: Noodles were slit down one side and fitted over the heat tape and hose, then slit was taped over with electrical tape). Temps dropped to 9 degrees F and our water supply line never froze up. Also we noticed little impact on our electric bill since during warmer weather the thermostat worked as advertised - shut down the heat when the temp of the hose rose above 45 degrees F.
