Local hardware stores offer these spinner-vents for about $40. You get what you pay for. The one I purchased from Lowe's simply did not spin freely enough, took something like a 30 mph breeze OR a major differential between attic and outdoor air to get it spinning. There is no magic in physics - the fact that this EMPIRE brand ventilator hangs rather than "sits on" its bearings makes it a simply better device. One reviewer said his has spun for 60 years. Sounds good to me. The two I installed look and work great.
