Works great on my German Snauzers

I purchased these Oster Pro Turbo A5 clippers to start grooming our two German Snauzers. I was typically spending approx $150/month on grooming and often times getting inconsistent results. When I received the clipper, I was impressed with the build quality. I felt like I was able to step back in time and an buy old school USA made product that just feels like it was made to last. One of my Snauzers have what is called a "mega coat". Basically just a thick coat of fur. This clipper cuts effortlessly through her coat with no issue. Please note that on my initial use, the clipper seemed to get really hot fast. I realized that the clipper needed oiling/cleaning prior to each dog. Here is what I do before each use and before I store the clipper; with clipper on low speed, I put a drop of clipper oil on both ends of the blade and one drop in the middle. I then spray the Oster blade cleaner (blue spray can) on the running blade, then turn off and wipe off excess. This will typically get me through an entire session with cool to luke warm blades. If needing extended time, spray blades with blue can again and it will cut out most of the heat. When done, clean out the hair, oil/clean/store. These are heavy duty and light years beyond the products in retail stores. FYI- I typically only use the low speed cuz these clippers are powerful ;)

I was skeptical about buying this due to the reviews on the blade heating up too fast & hot. I have 3 dogs, one Maltese and two Maltese shih tzu. I groomed all 3 in 3 hours and the blade felt warm only. I had two ice pack ready to go just in case I need it. It turns out I didn't need it after all. Im not a professional groomer. The clipper cuts pretty well. It goes through knots and tangles like a knife cutting through butter. I've always wanted to try one of these hundred dollar clippers for a long time and now finally got the chance to. And plus spending approximately $500+ a year for all 3 dogs was not going to happen. Now the next thing I'm worry about is the clipper "stop working" like some reviews I've read. I like the clipper. As long as it continues to work the same, I will keep using it forever!!! Thank goodness I won't have to take my dogs to the groomer anymore.

as a professional groomer for 43 years, Oster clippers have been the mainstay of my grooming equipment; over the past 2 years something has changed w/ the Oster company; with every Oster clipper I've ordered (new), the blade drive assembly is not secure, thus the blade rattles on the clipper; I ordered this Turbo A5 2-speed clipper on Nov.29,'16, received it Dec. 2 and began using it immediately; within 2 weeks of use, any blade I snapped on to the clipper would rattle; I've returned this clipper and will probably not order another Oster clipper for my grooming shop; I have 4 clippers on the 2 grooming tables in my shop--2 for my assistant and 2 for me--I need reliable equipment, and unfortunately, that is no longer Oster.
Respectable clippers, great results.

After reading through all of the reviews the other night, I bit the bullet and bought these clippers. They arrived pristine and in working order.
I used these clippers this morning to fix/finish a body clip on an older horse(1000lb Quarter Horse, not a mini, lol) that I had foolishly begun with dog clippers last week because we were concerned that she would overheat with last weekend's sudden warm spell.
I did not experience any of the purported overheating issues with the clippers. The clippers got warm, but not as warm as my dog clippers regularly do. The blades got warm, but with blade wash and kool lube, they never got warmer than what was comfortable to leave lying against my hand.
I started clipping at about 5 am and was done in about 45 minutes. I left the clippers on the lower speed so as not to freak out the horse, and it was like a hot knife through butter. I'm not gonna say it looks professional, because I'm a first timer, but it took off the hair that I hadn't been able to get before and took a haphazard, hasty trace clip to a passable full body clip with very little effort.
The horse is much cooler and much happier, and I am thrilled with my purchase. Worth every penny to make an older horse comfortable again.
And as soon as the other blades and guides I ordered show up, the dog is next.

Don't bother buying the cheap clippers for your animals that are usually found at your local discount department stores for $50.00 or less. We burned through several of them and virtually tortured our long haired cat and dog with the cheap one that barely cut the hair and then tugged at their hair causing them pain. This Oster and those at a similar level of quality will bring up your pet clipping game and make your animal's experience much better. The price is good on Amazon and if you live anywhere with hot summers and need to trim your dog several times in the summer, this is the way to go. There are some even higher grade clippers out there that can really do the trick, but this one is solid. It has saved us several times over from the cost of paying a groomer.
