I thought it would be a good idea to make sure the float worked properly
M. K.August 14, 2017
Before installing the sending unit, I thought it would be a good idea to make sure the float worked properly, so i first tested this with my multimeter, i quickly found out that the resistance was incorrect, the readings were backwards from what they should be, reading full when it was down and reading empty when it was up. To verify that i wasn't crazy, i hooked it up to my boat and sure enough, the sending unit was reading incorrectly ( I was very frustrated at this point). So i took the meter apart and flipped it around so it would read properly, however the problem with doing this is that the float was now upside down so I had to bend the rod 180 deg. Long story short....I made this sending unit work after much effort and headache. It is installed in my boat and works, but the frustrating thing is that it isn't very accurate it shows full when its full but, when i am at half a tank it's showing 3/4 full, and when it's empty it show between 1/4 and 1/2 empty.. I would like moeller marine products to refund me my money or please send me another one that has passed a quality assurance test and will work properly!!!
Easy install

Very easy to install. Just measure your tank and follow the directions. Screw holes lined up with old. Lots of other people have said to use the old screws, I cannot agree more. I tried using the new one it came with and they would not work in the old grooves. It would be like re-tapping the screw holes which would weaken the attachment ability. Use a hacksaw to cut the metal and be careful not to bend the bar.
Moeller Marine Electric Fuel Tank Sending Unit

Float shaft comes very long. You have to cut it off depending on the depth of your gas tank. There's a cross reference chart on the back of the package to tell you how long it should be. Very easy to do. Installation was basically simple. Instructions included on back. Save your screws from the old sending unit. The new screws would not thread in very far before they felt like they were going to cross thread. Used my old screws and had no problems whatsoever.
Great Sending Units for the price

These are great sending units for the price, standard Ohm rating works great with Faria Euro Gauges (or any fuel gauge that uses the standard 32-240 Ohm resistance scale) Comes with stainless hardware to mount to a plastic tank (I bought some stainless self tapping screws for my metal tank though and used some fuel resistant Permatex Gray MotoSeal to help seal it up a little better) The package has a table that tells you what length to cut the metal rod to for the tank depth you have. Hard to screw it up. Wiring is easy too, just connect a black ground wire to the aluminum top plate (it has a 1/4" male spade terminal already riveted on it) and connect the sender wire of your fuel gauge to the threaded center post on the sender and you are good to go. Reads accurately with no needle bounce or dead zones on the gauge.

Perfect replacement for my boat but docked a star because it didn't mention that it came with a new gasket. So I now have an extra one based on the suggestion from Amazon that I order it as well.
