Does Not look like pictured item.
Jack T. KayeOctober 3, 2017
Unit received does not look like the picture. The one I removed from my boat looks like the picture so I was hoping that it would be a direct replacement. Will install tomorrow in hopes that this is an "improved" version and will work. I will repost if all is well.
Easy install and works great

Easy install and works great! As with other reviews I had to use my old screws from my original sending unit. Installed on a 1995 Bayliner fish and ski.
Great unit

This universal unit is great. It can be altered in whichever way you want it. For years I got tired of flipping up the seat on my 1970's sears lawn tractor and pulling the gas cap off just to check the level. The float on the vertical cap sunk a long time ago, and the stained dome top that has been warped finally fell off. So I removed the tank and drilled out a big enough hole to mount this unit on the other end of the tank. Problem was, there was a baffle in the way. I just cut it out. My tank is almost 6 inches deep and 18 inches long. Easy wiring to the gauge on the dash which I drilled out too. Works great. No more guessing when I'm in the field hundreds of yards away from a gas can..
A case of getting what I paid for.

I ordered one of these sender &guage sets back in June. Then I broke my foot and the project of putting a nee sender and guage in my old Searay project was delayed. When 5weeks later i got around to installing them I found that what was delivered was esentialy thr same asnshown, a sender that is adjustqble for 4_24" deep tanks but the sender configuration was much different than the unit pictured. The package contained instructions for the sender, how to adjust for depth, but no instructions for wiring the guage or wiring the guage and sender and togeather.
I think im reasonable handy so I guessed i could figure complete what seemed a simple wiring project with no instructions.
After installing the sender, the guage and wiring everything (all 4 wires) to where they seemed they should go I powered up the insturements. ( I had a full tank of gas in the tank) The guage read between 1/2 and 3/4 full. I assumed I had the float inproperly adjusted so I removed the sender to check. While I had the sending unit in my hand, still wired to the guage, I moved the arm to the full and empty position. The guage refused to move to full.
Thinking it must be something im doing wrong, I tried it using 18g wire, it was wired up with 16g, the run is only about 5'. No joy, the guage still did not read full.
I contacted Moeller via email and was told by their customer service contaft that I must have a bad sender and that I should return it to Amazon. As usual Amazon handled the return and shipped out a new guage/sender right away.
As soon as the new package ate ved I switched out the sender and guage for the new one. I was disapointed to find that the new guage and sender did exactly the swme thing. Again I contacted Moeller and retold the story. using the swme email thread from the first contact with Moeller. To say that I was frustrated by customer sercice's aparent lack of knowledge about their products and their inanbility to remember simple things, contained in the email, about solutions I had tried. Finally I suggested they pass my emails along to their QC department. The fact that Moeller might have a batch of screwy senders or guages had not occured to fustomer service.
At this point the deck of my boat has been cut opn to gain access to the fuel tank for way to,long and the $35 or so cost of the defective sender and guage had become secondary to my desire to fix the deck and move on. I decided I could spend considerably more to buy a higher end guage sender or just accept that it would tell me when i was below half tank and needed to fill up. Than I had a burst of insperation and decided to try a varity of wire combinations and connection fitting. with soder and or crimps. Regardless of what I tried the unit remained wrong. As i was puttinh the guage back in the dash, having admitted defeat I began wondering about the guages two ground connections. One ground goes to the boat ground the other to a groundinf connection on the sender. Just to see what would happen I put a short jumper between the two ground connnections on the back of the fuel guage. When I turned the power on the guage jumped to F, full. To be sure I removed the sending unit, again, and swung the float arm from full to empty and the guage reads properly.

Aparently, somewhere in the production process something wass an uncought oops. Unfortunitly Moeller does not seem to be concerned about it.

I gave them 2 stars. only because I fixed it and didnt tossxit in the bay.
