I use this to wake me up in the morning. Most of the time, i just use the bed shaker. It always works to wake me, and immediately, EXCEPT when I haven't gotten at least 6 hours sleep. I am one who has to have at least 6 hours sleep, or I am good for nothing. On those nights when I know that I will not be getting at least 6 hours rack time, I use both the bed shaker and the audio alarm. It will work to wake me up then.
Aside from having a super loud audio alarm with adjustable tone and volume, and a bed shaker (an intermittently vibrating plastic disk so strong, that I have been tempted but too terrified to try it out during 'self-abuse'), it also has little sharp bumps build on to the snooze button. It was deliberately made that way because touching different textures like this helps waken you. And it also has 3 bright blinking LEDs on the front. They won't light up a room, but they definitely help awaken you if you look at the clock when you reach to stop the alarm. Really, all that is missing to make this more effective is a function that brews coffee, and pours it down your throat for you.
I have had and used this alarm clock for a couple of months, and it hasn't failed me yet. It is the only alarm clock which has ever reliably woken me up more than 3 mornings in a row. Enough said.

Good and loud for one with old age hearing loss

I think this WILL wake the dead!
I'm not as heavy a sleeper as I was 30-40 years ago, but with my hearing loss, there aren't a lot of alarm clocks that I will hear whether I'm asleep or awake. I even bought a full alarm system for my house to ensure I hear my smoke/CO detectors while asleep. The alarm is more than loud enough to 'jolt' me awake! (set at highest level). I also find having two different alarm 'set times' works well as I have to get up earlier on Sundays' for church (I'm retired). The under mattress vibrator also works well, too.
On the down side, the brightness setting for the display doesn't go dim enough. I'd like to see it perhaps two 'steps' lower. If having red LEDs in your face from 2-3 feet away is a problem for you, don't buy this alarm clock. Fortunately, they don't bother me, even though I sleep on my side facing the clock. The only other negative aspect to this clock is one has to stop and think briefly to turn off the alarm. The button on the top is the snooze button. The alarm on/off is on the left side. If I were old enough to have noticeable age-related cognitive mental loss, this alarm may be confusing.

BEST alarm for heavy sleepers!

I am a super heavy sleeper - I've had fire alarms go off outside my bedroom door and hurricanes shaking the windows of my home I sleep next to and I will not wake up. I usually have to set multiple alarms - I'm the person who sets them a minute apart to make sure I hear them and wake up to them. But this - this is amazing. I put the part that vibrates in my pillow case underneath the pillow and it's perfect. I wake up immediately - and that's just to the vibrate, I don't even need to have the sound go off. I accidentally set it to vibrate only once and I still woke up immediately. I absolutely love, love, LOVE this product.
Great for Hard to Wake Teens

I got this for our college freshman. He can sleep through normal alarms that wake the entire house. It was a struggle when he was at home but going to college 500 miles away was a big worry. I constantly fretted about the thought of him flunking out by oversleeping and missing class. This alarm gave me hope and now that his first class is over (they do the One Course At A Time curriculum) I have peace of mind. He was only late one time from oversleeping and that was because he forgot to set it. He did have to tone the alarm down since he's in a dorm but the shaker takes up the slack. I wish I had discovered this years ago.
*The* Alarm Clock For Deep Sleepers

For any heavy sleepers out there, this Sonic Bomb Alarm is *the* alarm clock you need.
It wasn't until I reached a pivotal point in my life where I had to get it together, or risk losing my job, that I decided to get this alarm (along with two other alarms) to help me wake up. This Sonic Bomb does exactly as advertised. It emits a loud piercing beeping that will get anyone up. If that doesn't work it has a secondary system that literally shakes your bed.
You have the ability to set two separate alarm times, which you can turn on one, or two, or both. If you cannot wake up, set them both on all the time. You have the ability to snooze with the big top button, and to turn it off there is a button on the bottom right that does that. Once this thing rings, you will have a difficult time going back to sleep if you put this on snooze.
The bed shake feature is a wonder. You hook a cord to the alarm (which powers it), and put the disc end under your bed. It will make a slight lump, so the best suggested placement is right in the middle of the bed towards your chest area. You don't want this vibrating and shaking at your feet, but where your chest area is. You can try placing it near your head, but that would be too annoying of an alarm for me.
I've yet to not wake up from this, so it's doing its job. Spend the money on the alarm, or risk losing yours. Highly recommended.
