A reliable machine that will do most of what you want.
Daniel Bobinski✓ Verified Purchase•October 21, 2017
I read many of the reviewer comments and watched several YouTube videos about this machine before purchasing it. In the end, I probably should have spent a little more to get what I *really* wanted, but for the price, this is a reliable, good machine.
Likes:
+ Easy to operate. Essentially a turn-key operation. It comes ready to go out of the box.
+ Easy to clean. It comes apart pretty easily and cleans up quickly.
+ Consistency in cut-thickness.
Dislikes:
- I think the base that the food goes on should be about 1/2" - 3/4" higher in relationship to the blade. When getting to the end of whatever I'm slicing, the cut seems to get caught toward the bottom of the blade.
- The catcher-tray does not have a stable seat. One of the things that drew me to this unit was the catcher tray, but it does not sit well. In some cases, I'm better off just putting a sheet of wax paper under the slicer. A slight change in the design of the unit's base would provide a better, more stable platform for holding the catcher tray.
- Doesn't slice as thin as I'd like. Sometimes I want THIN slices. This machine can't quite get to the thinness that I get at the deli.
Overall, I like it. I don't necessarily love it, but it's definitely better than "okay." For the price point, it's a reliable machine that will do most of what you want.

A bargain long term.

4.5 - I have now tested this slicer on raw pork loin, roast beef, roasted turkey breast, boned ham, and several loaves of bread. It's a keeper.
Slicing deli style is what I primarily got it for so the nonserated blade will have to be an addition. Another 1/2" of blade would be nice too. It slices prepared meat and bread marvelously. It didn't do well with the raw pork loin but after freezing an hour it cut perfect 1/2" chops. Trying to slice anything over 6" wide causes some issues.
Orienting the slicer such that you push forward instead of left-to-right helps a lot. Letting the blade do its thing instead of going for speed also helps.
It's amazingly easy to clean and there's an excellent blade sharpener for this model available. It does have some plastic body construction some folks don't care for but to me the trade-off in less weight is worth it.
Overall, considering I can't have a Hobart commercial model with a 12" blade - it's perfect for me.

Underwhelmed, spend a little more and get something a little more rugged.

I received the slicer promptly in good working order so no fault to the seller or shipper.
In my humble opinion, this slicer is a little better than a toy but if you are going to go so far as to buy your own slicer, spend an extra $70 and get a decent one.
The slicer is fine with bread. I can buy a whole loaf and quickly and easily slice it on a setting of 12 or so, works great
The slicer works reasonably well with softer cheeses, fresh mozzarella came out with great uniform slices
Things start going poorly when you are slicing anything firmer. If you apply enough pressure to keep a cold cut firmly against the blade two things happen, the plate adjacent to the blade flexes giving you a thicker cut and the cut adjustment will slip giving you a thicker cut. there also seem to be some alignment issues giving you an uneven cut resulting in you needing to flip the meat periodically to avoid uneven slicing.
It's small but the size doesn't bother me, for a kitchen appliance it is sized to handle most tasks without a problem. I had one ham that was to large, cut it in half, problem solved. I have worked in a deli before so I know what a professional Hobart slicer does. I was not expecting anything close to that level of performance but was still underwhelmed by this slicer.

May be a little early for a review but, so far I like it. I've only cut a few loaves of very crusty bread and an apple (just to test it). I bought it to slice ham as we usually buy them uncut. The slicer works great, the slices are consistent, it's pretty easy to clean and has enough power if you let it cut as its pace. The tray sits under the slicer for storage and it would be nice if it clipped in somehow but, other than that it's working great so far.
Update after a couple months: Very happy. Works great on Costco ham. It cut the ham much faster than I expected, basically as fast as I cared to go. Nice, even, thin slices. I've also done about 1/2 dozen loaves of Costo bread with it by now and it's great getting consistent slices the thickness you like. I don't bother with the tray as it's a bit small for bread or a 3 pound ham. I have some thin nylon cutting boards that I place under it. Makes cleanup a bit easier. Cleaning: I remove the blade, along with the other easily removable parts. Blade is very sharp so be careful. There's a black nylon slice deflector that is held by a single screw in the front, I remove that as well to clean up after ham. Not really necessary to remove the deflector when just cutting bread.

I was a little worried about buying this slicer because you just never know how well things are going to work. But, we had 27 beef briskets to slice for a fund raiser and we really needed a good slicer at an affordable price so I took a chance. Shipping was really fast and it was well packaged. Setting it up was easy and setting the thickness of the slices was easy too. It worked wonderfully cutting up that many briskets but I was a little disappointed in the fact that we couldn't get a large pan under it to collect a larger quantity of meat at once. Otherwise, it worked really well giving uniform slices, clean up was easy, moving parts worked as they should so that I wasn't getting tendonitis moving it back and forth. We will be using it from now on for any of our slicing needs.
