It does the job. I had no problems with the assembly process. I think the price is a little high, but the time it saved me was worth it. The float was heavier than I thought, but floated my deicer nicely. You may consider buying an additional piece of rope to secure the deicer to the other shore if your pond is wider than 50 feet. I hooked mine between a 4x4 where I have power and a t post on the opposite shore.
The best option for suspending the de-icer from the boat

I have a cat. suspending the motor under the boat wouldn't give proper coverage. It only needs to be a few feet from the stern to give full coverage. From the bow would work on other boats, not an option at my dock.
