Good for long hair cats too

We have an 18 lb. cat that is half Maine Coon Cat and has a thick and long coat. That means that even with regular brushing he can get some pretty nasty mats. This tool does a great job of getting splitting the mats so I can get them out without the cat getting too irritated with me. Just in case, I wear a pair of welder gloves when I work on him, but that is just insurance. I had one of these before and someone who I loaned it to (dog owner, of course) forgot to give it back. Glad to find these on Amazon. One thing I missed is I seem to remember they used to come with a couple of spare blades, and told you that they used injector razor blades - still the case I am sure for when the tool gets too dull to split mats. Anyway was great when I raised Samoyeds, and works fine on cats also.

I have enjoyed using this tool on my Yorkie to remove matts and tangles. He is one little finicky Yorkie that HATES to be groomed so he has a tendency to get a few matts and tangles between shearing. I love the SAFETY FEATURES of the construction/design in that neither me nor my pet get cut with the razor! It really does the trick and I'm SO GLAD to have found this product!

Our barn cat has VERY long hair (we think he is part Norwegian Forest -- looks just like them), and has a particular love of bur bushes, which has caused some matting issues. He is quite sensitive and must be groomed very carefully, and would not allow the mats to be removed. We tried this razor grooming tool, and it works!! It is so sharp, it can cut through the mat and that cat doesn't even know it. It takes very small, short back-and-forth strokes to cut through the problem areas, but it does its job! I hope now that all the mats are gone, regular grooming will keep them from returning, but at least we have this nifty tool to help if they do.

I have a Tibetan terrier mix who was matted in so many different places, it was pretty clear when he went to the groomer they would have to shave him. I had vowed never to let that happen again, but here we were! After many painstaking hours (and painful ones for him), in a last ditch effort I bought this. Used in combination with a detangling spray (which I had never tried before) this made the job almost easy. If you have a dog with a heavy undercoat, get this - you and your dog will thank yourself forever.

I bought this after a disappointing purchase of Le Salon Essentials Cat Mat Breaker (http://smile.amazon.com/Le-Salon-Essentials-Cat-Breaker/dp/B0056V9RCK/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8). This was a way better purchase. It's basically a safely surrounded razor blade. It's actually really sharp. The very tip is covered by dull metal so that you can use it to position through the mat. It won't slice up through the hair like butter, but if you move it gently back and forth one or two times once in the mat, it should come right through. I usually hold the bottom of the mat under where the blade is inserted so that it doesn't pull on my kitty's hair much. The blade is also replaceable so this product won't go to waste when it gets dull. They also provide you with a nice safety cover for storage so that you don't unintentionally slice through something.
