Very solid
R. TodishMarch 5, 2018
Wasn't sure how these were going to work on my 2011 ford f-350 super duty, but they fit fine and haven't budged in over a month. Very solid.
Good luck putting these units together. Customer service is number two for Yakima.

Warning, this is a review of assembling a SK System not how the assembled unit works as you hustle down the road. Because every component comes with its own printed instructions and every component's instructions sheet is incomplete I can eliminate the word "system" from Yakima products, e.g., the $50+ locks comes with retainer clips and instructions don't mention clips in print nor do they show how the tumblers should be installed in the tower unit. Q-Clips instructions address where and how to install on the bar and where to attach towers with Q-Clips, but not how to install the Clips to the Tower and what to do with the cheap adhesive pads that languish on the bottoms to the two Q-Clip boxes. My benchmark for a world class company is not does it provide a blog for us floundering consumers to share our collective ignorance, i.e.. does it not really need a blog because it anticipates consumer needs. Think that's too much to expect from a company, look to Amazon as the best service provider in my world! P.S. Yakima's customer service is closed today, Friday, at noon on Fridays and every click on "Instruction Video" is greeted with, " This site can't be reached , " explore.yakima.com's server DNS address could not be found." A picture is worth a thousand words. Yakima could save the sloppy incomplete inked words on wood pulp paper and simple provide us with an exploded, or blow up, diagram with few words. Got consumers number one, nah! Caveat emptor, y'all.
Great roof rack for older vehicles.

They're expensive, but I have an older truck (2004 Tacoma) and the newer naked roof systems are not compatible. I was able to get the clips on ebay and the rest of the parts here on Amazon and saved a decent amount from the manufacturer cost. I got the 78" bars and cut them down to 76" so they don't extend past the rear view mirrors. I can haul two canoes or one canoe and two kayaks with ease. Very stable and wasn't too hard to install, but did take a little time and patience. Only real complaint is that the locks really should be included with these. Real price grab to make those an option, and an expensive one at that.
works well if you follow the directions
David L. SmithMay 25, 2017
my wife bought her first set about 10 years ago. I found it interesting that Yakima now recommends removing the rack system in between uses. I know we had to repaint my wife's truck because water got under the pads and caused the roof to start rusting. maybe her call to Yakima had more impact than just getting free upgraded replacements for the pads. One thing about installation of the entire rack system; follow the directions to the letter or it won't seat correctly and you run the risk of the rack coming off the car while moving.
I loved loved loved having this system on my car
anonymousFebruary 4, 2016
I loved loved loved having this system on my car. It was very sturdy and I could haul bikes, kayaks, wood from Home Depot, etc with confidence. Also, it's is a great place to put stickers, a great way to find your car if you forgot where you parked, a great way to get the attention of moderately attractive women, etc.

But, even when I had the "locks" on it, someone used a pry bar and stole it easily. Now... I feel like I've lost a piece of my soul, and everyday is as cold as The Day After Tomorrow, or something.

May you be forever shamed by this Amazon review, Theifman.

I think maybe it's made to pop off? In case you accidentally drive into a garage with a bike on top? But, just make sure that you do park in a garage. Or, be prepared to have your heart broken every time you look at your poor, sad excuse of an adventure-less 4-door sedan.
