GOOD BUY
RWFSeptember 4, 2017
Does a better job than I expected and stay sharp more than I thought it would. Handle is a bit long but the user can cut it to the length comfortable for their use. I left mine full length that give a little more cutting power when used like a hatchet. Did great for small fire wood I was cutting up to 2-1/2". I also ordered the blade cover so I could safely carry it in a pack or dry bag and to keep from slicing things up! Needed a touch up on the blade but is now extremely sharp. Get a cover!
Fun manly art project
KarlAugust 9, 2017
So what is this thing?... it's a novelty manly art project! It's cheap, Chinese made, and the fit and finish is initially pretty bad. It's made for being taken apart, stripped, sanded and stained, refitted, and reassembled to your liking. Is it a usable tool?.... sure. Is it a better tool than a hatchet or small quality as of the same weight?...no! Will you get into a fight with some Colonial Redcoats and need it as a weapon?...no, you won't.

Either way though, it's fun and cool. I bought mine for $20. Then bought paint stripper $5, gun blue $5, sandpapers $10, stain $5, wood oil $5, feathers-beads-string-leather-$20, and a set of files $10 =. $80 total. Then went to work for about a week. Made an awesome wallhanger-useable traditional tool.
I like it, but for $120 and no work I can get a sweet, top quality hatchet of the same weight.

Confession: The process was so fun I got another and a pipe hawk too and some spare handles! More work and YouTube research to do! Modding these is fun, even if they are roughly made and not ideal as a tool.
Easy to throw
Amazon CustomerJune 20, 2017
It works well, I like the longer handle, I think it is easier to learn with. The nice long handle makes it easy to see what position it is in when it hits the target. Three rotations to the target is quite a long distance. The allen wrench set screw makes it easy to replace handles. If you are learning I recommend purchasing some spare handles. 2-3 hours of throwing chewed through two handles (while I was learning) The weight makes it stick in the target better than lighter tomahawks. Once I got relatively good at throwing I switched from this to my short handled Fast Hawk SOG. Just my preference, you may think differently.
Great tomahawk for the price!
.May 26, 2017
Admittedly, this is the only tomahawk I've ever owned. However it has far exceeded my expectations and has become a constant companion when I work outside. I bought it mainly to take on an annual primitive camping trip, and while I will definitely take it on that trip, the utility of this tomahawk has me carrying while doing work around the house.

Throwing this hawk is quite easy to master, and I now can throw single, double, and triple rotations at 5, 10, and 25 paces respectively. I did purchase an extra handle to throw with as I have put a lot of time working on the original handle to make it look good.

Whole it looks pretty bad when it arrives, a few hours of stripping, sanding, and staining can make this hawk look pretty good. Putting a good edge on it is easy, and it holds quite nicely.

I will be purchasing a couple more for projects. For the price, you just can't beat it.
with some mods this hawk will be amazing for you

Upon receiving this tomahawk I gave it a quick inspection due to other reviewers receiving chipped handles and blades. I had a small knick in my handle which I was able to sand out easily. The blade comes very sharp, don't ask me how I know. he hammer pommel on the back is very hard and is about one square inch of surface area. The head comes with a black epoxy coating, probably to prevent rusting. Carbon steel rusts very quickly without proper treatment. The head on the tomahawk I received was fitted very tightly and cause the wood to curl up right above the head. Annoying, but can be fixed with minimal handyman skills.

I have watched a few YouTube videos about modifying a cold steel hawk and decided to give it a try. I purchased epoxy stripper and wood stain and clear coat polyurethane spray. I took the black coating off the head and was left with a beautifully aged looking steel head. I polished the head and sprayed clear coat on it to prevent rust. I then sanded the handle with various grades and stained it with a cherry finish. There are many more modifications that you can do like branding, burning, and etching.

I believe this is a great project for a father/son bonding day and you are left with a viable tool.

I actually took this camping before working on it and got amazing results!! I processed about 200 pounds of wood with it and was able to clear a trail into the woods. The head is designed perfectly to be able to grab onto it and make feather sticks, or curls of wood. The hammer pommel is perfect for hitting steaks into the ground, tenderizing meat, self defense, or general nail-nailing.

PROS
-sharp
-carbon steel
-dense wood
-neat project IF youre into that
-very capable at processing wood

CONS
-cosmetic issues that MIGHT can be worked out
-carbon steel (this is a pro and a con)

I cant express enough how much enjoyment I have got out of this tomahawk and im sure you will too!!
