If you want the best tasting, best quality supplements, you get Legion. If you are a broke dad who works out on a rusty weight set he bought used, you can't afford that, so you go for something cheaper. Enter Met-RX whey protein. Literally the cheapest thing I could find.

In my mind, people are a little obsessive about how their supplements taste. Maybe people are romantically sipping their protein shake with their significant other while they watch the sunset, or maybe they pair the perfect protein shake with their dinner, like a fine wine. Me, I chug it in about 30 seconds, and I'm not a bouji purse dog that turns its nose up at anything but caviar. I genuinely don't care much about the flavor.

If you are a bouji purse dog, don't get this...at least not the chocolate. It tastes like cardboard, old mushrooms and cough syrup. Mixing it with milk doesn't help much.

If you're looking for a compromise between taste and value, Muscle Pharm cookies and cream is my favorite. But personally, I'll continue with this. It's the best value, and I genuinely don't care how it tastes.

I am leaving a review for the flavor. I am not a nutritionist or a chemist, so I can't speak to any of that stuff. Also, I've had the product for only two days, so it's not possible at this time to tell how well it influences my performance.

A little about me, first. I mix shakes with whole milk because my muscular physiology responds well to a high fat content in my diet. Most of my training is focused on building strength and power. I really don't do much in the way of cardio, although that's not by choice.

The flavor is actually very nice. It may be because of the milk, but I find it to be fairly rich. I'm really not sure why these people are saying the flavor isn't very strong. It has a dark chocolate flavor which I find to be full, satisfying, and natural. This isn't like some product flavors (I'm looking at you, MusclePharm Cookies and Cream from Costco) that walk into your house, set your chairs on fire, and then slap you in the face. This flavor chills with you on the couch and generally doesn't make a scene. It's very pleasant.

This may also be psychosomatic, but I feel like it tastes less processed than most other wheys. It just tastes ... "right." This one doesn't have a lot of extra stuff in it, and I feel good after having a shake. I don't feel bloated, pregnant, flatulent, or like a bloated pregnant flatulent lady. I bought this because I tried ON's caramel fudge flavor and it gave me headaches "” I usually don't have any issues with them, just that flavor specifically. It was, however, enough to get me to try something new. This one works well, and costs $14 less. We'll see how good it does over time!

Addendum 2016-06-14: I went through a jar of this, then a jar of MusclePharm whey that was on sale at Costco, and now I'm on another jar of this.

I have noticed no difference between this and any other whey I've tried performance-wise. Now, I haven't gone through any scientific stress tests, so I'm just speaking from how I feel. But honestly, it gives you all the protein you need and nothing you don't. It's a great protein supplement. My strength training is progressing well and my tendonitis is on the decline. I should note that I also use ON casein at night in combination with this.

For the money, you can't go wrong. I would tell any friend looking for protein about this product.

Hands down the best protein powder available. I tried whey protein powders years ago but was turned off by terrible stomach discomfort and taste. I recently realized that I am very sensitive to sucralose, and if you look at 99% of all whey protein powders on the market they include sucralose. I originally purchased Muscle Milk Naturals, which is great, doesn't include sucralose, but the largest size is 2.4 lbs. so I ordered the Met-Rx Natural Whey protein in the 5 lb tub after I ran out of the Muscle Milk. The Met-Rx is fantastic, no bloating, no stomach discomfort at all, but the taste is far superior than the Muscle Milk IMO. The Muscle Milk Naturals has a much sweeter taste, in both the vanilla and chocolate, compared to the Met-Rx, making the Met-Rx easier to drink and doesn't seem to fill you up as much. I have gained ~10lbs and my workout partners have noticed, now they all switched and are drinking the same thing. I have read some reviewers complain about the taste, let me try to clear this up; this protein powder is not going to produce a strong tasting, with a thick consistency "shake", it has a mild flavor that will be very easy to drink. If you're use to thick, artificially sweet, protein powders then you are going to find this protein to be thin and weak tasting, but try it for a couple of days and you're not going to be able to drink the sucralose added proteins ever again. I hope this review helps anyone that gave up on protein powders in the past due to stomach discomfort or taste.

I have used several brands of protein powders before: muscle milk, musclepharm, on, progenex to name a few. The amount of protein is equivalent to many of those powders. It also has the BCAAs (which haven't been proven) to assist with your muscle growth. I usually use a shaker and mix this with water right before and after a workout. Timing is everything, right?

The taste isn't as great as the best tasting protein powder that I have had, but it isn't bad either. Many have commented on the aftertaste. There is a hint of one, but no more than many other powders. Remember that this doesn't have gum in the ingredients to hide the aftertaste.

Furthermore, if you know what stevia extract taste like, then you shouldn't be offended by the taste. Out of all the powders I have used, this is the least sweet. I have only used the vanilla flavor so far.

As far as packing more protein for the punch, this does it. Because of the cost, you get more protein for every coin you spend while still getting a "natural" product. Just be aware that this product does have fructose in it as well. Many bodybuilding regimens nowadays call for a quick small dose of sugar post workout so I guess this will satisfy that.

In the end, I would recommend this protein powder for any workout enthusiast. Just remember, it aint a miracle drug: it is a meal replacement. Eat well, work hard and sleep are the true natural ingredients to the build you want. Good luck!
