I had a wasp trap like this one that I used for several years
Kelly✓ Verified Purchase•August 17, 2016
I had a wasp trap like this one that I used for several years. After several years of weather and sun the plastic became old and eventually broke. Needing a new wasp trap I went to Walmart and could not find the same trap so I purchase a different kind. After several weeks I had not caught one wasp and decided to look for this trap on Amazon. I'm so glad I found this trap again because nothing works better. I purchase this trap and when it arrived I quickly put it in place. Within a few minutes this wasp trap was doing its job and catching wasps. Now my family and I can sit on our deck without those pesky wasps flying around and causing us problems. If you want a wasp or bee trap that works, I would highly recommend purchasing this wasp trap and forget about wasting your money on any other traps. I hope this review helps you decide on this product.
WORKS LIKE A CHARM!

I honestly thought these might be a gimmick product. However, after using this product for the last three weeks, I'm a believer! Of course, this assumes that you use the right "bait" in the bottle, which I've found to be extremely important. What has worked for me is diluted jam, sweet soda pop, beer, or diluted molasses. We have an abundance of wasps and yellow jackets this year due to a warm winter last season, so it has been a battle.
Basically, the wasps and yellow jackets crawl in and can't get out. I would recommend that you clean out the trap while there is liquid in it, rather than letting it evaporate. By my estimate, these traps (3) have killed about 100 yellow jackets and wasps in the three weeks of use. Highly effective, and I would strongly recommend this product.
UPDATE: One year later....
After storing the traps for the winter, I put them out again this year, and to my amazement, they work even better! I use a mix of water/sugar at 3:1 ratio, a tablespoon of molasses, ½ cup of vinegar, and a can of cheap beer. Pour the mix up to the bottom of the first entry points, and watch all of the action. I am getting so many dead critters that I have to empty the traps nearly every day, and the pool area is generally wasp/yellow jacket clear. (P.S. The vinegar helps repel honey bees who don't like the smell; conversely, it attracts wasps and yellow jackets who like a sweet/sour smell.)
These traps will probably last one more year at which time I will purchase three more. Great product!

Living in the Shenandoah Valley we have paper wasps (yellow variation), paper wasps (black variation), yellow jackets, hornets and plenty of non-stinging flying insects. I bought one of these to see if it would work at all, work enough to draw the wasps away from our efforts to feed the local hummingbirds...and work towards making a significant impact on the local wasp population.
I placed the first one about 5 feet away from one of the hummingbird feeders with an adhoc concoction of lemonade, sugar and raw hamburger meat (similar to, but not exactly the recipe recommended by the manufacturer). In all fairness to the trap I thought this mix wasn't going to fair well but I caught 2 wasps after putting up in the early evening. Although the mix quickly turned rancid, I caught nearly a dozen wasps the next day and a number of flies. By the 4th day the mix was a witches brew of unsavoriness and it was still catching wasps.
I put another one on order...this trap works!
Better prepared for the ingredients, I used apple juice, sugar and a small slice of raw chicken in each trap. I placed the traps about 4:00 pm yesterday and sit here on the porch this morning typing this review with about 6 wasps in each trap, the hummingbirds happily parading along the feeders and my coffee undisturbed by even the slight buzz of any wasps, flies et al.
These do spill easily so exercise care when you put up a fresh batch of attractant but...even more care when you take down the old "brew". Once they're hanging there seems to be very little or no spillage.
I highly recommend this trap!

This Bee Catcher is my second one. My first one got super dirty. I was cleaning it with bleach and then I would add fruit juice or sugar water. As the sun bakes in these mixtures and the flies, bees, wasps, and the like get trapped and die, it would leave a black mold behind. So this time, I'm using Karo Syrup in the bottom, it's sweet, it sticks and at the end of the season, I'll toss it and buy a new one next year. One thing, the rope for hanging is crap. I use a picture hanging wire to hang mine, and it has lasted through seasons.
Great Device that Actually Works

I honestly wasn't sure if this would work that well, but I was tired of the wasps around the deck, so here's what I did:
I filled the inside about 1/4 full of orange juice and then put the top back on and left it outside. After several days of nothing, I grew a bit disappointed. Then, suddenly, it had 10 wasps inside... then 20... then what seemed like 100 (granted, it likely was only half that amount, but it looked disgustingly full). The Trap was literally half full of wasps - it was amazing. And the crazy part? Even with all those dead wasps inside, it kept attracting them...
Now the unpleasant part... emptying it. Unlike some, this one isn't meant as a disposable device, but a reusable device. And this quickly seemed like a bad idea... I got near the device and started to move it, only to realize that many inside weren't dead yet. After all, there's not 'poison' inside, so you need to give the wasps time to die. Instead of waiting, I got out a can of Raid and sprayed the inside to ensure that I wouldn't unleash live wasps when I took off the top.
Other than that chore, it is a great device that actually works.
