Good luck hammering these things into the ground. If you have anything but soft, loamy or sandy soil, all you will do is end up with a mess of broken pieces. You'll have to drill or otherwise produce a hole for the stick to fit into; and don't make it too loose, because if you get a torrential downpour, the sticks will float out of the ground and burn the crap out of your grass. I know this from bitter experience.

I bought this not paying attention just knowing I needed fertilizer spikes for my apple trees. Well when I figured out they were for evergreens I decided to just go ahead and use them anyway because one of my apple trees was I believed dead and I wanted to give it a shot at life. Lo and behold now it has brand new little Buds and my other tree is loving these spikes as well. I can't imagine what it would do for the correct trees
