Great HAT...Poor shipping package
Julie McNaull✓ Verified PurchaseApril 1, 2018
This is a great hat for living on the gulf coast of Florida. I measured my husbands head and ordered according to the size chart. The hat fits very well. I was very disappointed to receive the hat folded and smooshed into a plastic bag and a box that was only 2" high. After some manipulating the hat did somewhat return to it's original shape. I only decided to keep it because my husband was satisfied with it. Shipping needs to be better so customers are receiving the great product as it's meant to be.
Kept Me Shaded and Relatively Cool

I got this hat for a trip I was taking that was going to be in a very hot and dry area in the dead of summer. I got the medium sized hat (I am a woman with an average sized head ), and the hat fit very well, snug but not too tight. I really liked the way the air circulated around my head so I didn't get any more sweaty under the hat than anywhere else. The brim was nice and wide so it provided adequate shade in the midday hot sun portions of the trip, and it was stiff enough to keep it's shape and not be floppy. I only wish there was a way to secure the chin string up out of the way; the little adjuster button got caught in my hair at one point. I imagine I can get creative and find a way to work out the chin string issue myself. Other than that, I have no complaints at all, and can recommend this hat to anyone searching for something similar.
Great quality hat, but sizing is too small.

Great quality hat. Mesh top allows plenty of airflow, similar to a straw hat. The brim provides plenty of shade, and is fairly stiff. The mesh crown can be crushed for packing, but dont fold the brim as it will get deformed / creased.

Minus one star on sizing. My head's circumference is 22.75" if measured tightly, 23" if measured comfortably. The Large was too tight, and the XLarge was too loose. The headband needs more elasticity for a range of sizes.
An awesome outdoor shade hat for summer time.

I decided to get the light colored one. Another review said it had a dark green under-side lining. It does. Never though that something like that would make any difference, but the dark contrast does indeed help with glare and eye strain in bright sunlight.
The hat itself has a firm brim, which I've noticed is a little wider than the average hat of this type, comfortable felt head-band lining, that both absorbs sweat as well as remains comfortable when both dry or soaked with sweat, and the mesh upper body allows decent airflow to keep the top of my head cool, yet not sun-blasted and sun-burned.

I've had basal cell issues on my ears, keeping the sun off of them is now a high priority. Keeping my mostly-bald head from being sunburned is as well. Shade on my shoulders is a nice bonus also. This hat achieves these goals excellently.

I also tried the DPC lightweight hat, that has no batting in the brim, and it is also wonderful, unless the wind is blowing, then the thin brim and lack of any batting layers and its light weight make it fairly useless for sun blocking. the lightweight hat is a great lightweight hat for backpacking or yard work or whatever, unless it is windy, then it is a nuisance. And definitely not a beach hat by any means.
I got this hat (solarweave mesh) because it has a firmer brim that withstands windy conditions better than the ultra-light version. Very happy with the choice.
For backpacking or camping or travel, I wouldn't recommend folding the brim and creasing the batting material, but the upper part of the hat is fully crushable and will resume its shape when unpacked. It packs flat just fine, just don't fold it.

If you want a good yard-work, work, hiking, touristing, outdoor activity hat that keeps your head shaded and cool, this one does the job.
Nice Hat!

Nice hat. When I got it, my wife liked it so much, I ordered another one for her! We wear them for fishing. I'm a head sweater, the mesh top lets the air in and lets the heart out. The wide brim is perfect for maximum blocking the sun! You can get it wet too!
Update: I wore my hat for the first time fishing yesterday. I was very pleased with it. The wide brim kept the sun off my face, and the liner band kept my from getting sweat in my eyes. I really like having the chin strap, it kept my hat from blowing off when the boat was moving at high speeds. The underside of the brim is a dark green, this is important for reducing the glare from the water from reflecting in my face. Of course the mesh crown is terrific, it let my body heat out and the breeze through, keeping me nice and cool. I'm not a hat guy, but it can get really hot on the water here in Florida, this hat was made for for fishing in the heat! It looks good too, even on me!
