Purchased as a gift for my parents because they wanted a larger version of a small one they have. Solid (heavy, thick-walled) as advertised. Need to season, but this should be expected. Very happy with this product.

Great mortar and pestle! Very heavy. Solid material. Easy to store and clean. The Pestle was a bit different looking than in the picture. It is more rounded as you can see in the pic. However, It still works great if not better. The bowl is wide enough for it and I can get a solid grip. Package was nice and not a chip or crack could be found.

The bowl is a great size for grinding spices or making salsa, but the pestle is short; as materials in the mortar climb up the walls during grinding, I always get some covering my fingers and the indentation in the pestle... it's a bit of a pain to return to the mortar and continue work quickly. I am 5'2", and have pretty small hands; so I feel that those who intend to use this daily in the kitchen might be wise to consider the volume of materiel being ground and the height of the pestle above the mortar rim before purchasing this set (or maybe I just have bad technique). That said; its a great set, I just wish the mortar was a couple inches taller so I would have less mess to clean up.

Excellent.....must season before use. Recommend put about cup of water in the bowl then started grinding for about a hour. The water will turn muddy....but let set overnight as the granite particles etc act like a Jewlers rouge. Repeat next day then water in hot water. Next put in some white rice an a little water an grid. This will pull out any grit. Repeat 3 to 4 time until rice flower stays white. Next start with desired herbs etc. Finish off with a lite coat of olive oil. Worth the work.
